Jolley family of Abilene
Christopher Thomas Jolley 3rd son born circa 1851 a carpenter and the son of Christopher Jolley, a
farmer and his wife Anne Smyth from Newtown Park. He married Anne Emily Devitt daughter of
William Devitt a gardener in 1873. Anne Emily Jolley died in 1887 and is buried at Stillorgan
graveyard.

4 Michael James Jolley born 08.09.1877 Newtown Park was baptised on 2 Dec 1877 at
Stillorgan Parish Church. Michael married Rosanna McKenna daughter of John McKenna, a
car owner of Georges Avenue at John the Baptist Church, Blackrock on 27.06.1900. Michael
was a carpenter living at Sandymount. He worked as a carpenter and foreman in Cork for
some years. Michael, his wife and 5 children departed Liverpool for Boston in 1923 and by
1930 Michael & Rose were living in Brooklyn, New York with the 4 younger children.

at Jolly's Lane in 1911. Elizabeth died 30.09.1960 aged 74 years at Orchard Lane, Blackrock.
The informant was her brother C.T. Jolley of 46 Green Road, Blackrock. Elizabeth is buried at
Deansgrange with her brother and his wife Anne.
Anne Emily Jolley died on 03.03.1887 and Christopher of Kilcandra, Co Wicklow married Mary Anne
Jolly, eldest daughter of Samuel Jolley of Merville on 6 Sep1887 at Kill Church.
8 Harriett Ethel Jolley born 29 Aug 1888 at Newtown Park married James Hill, a farmer from
Ballintemple, Woodenbridge on 15 Nov 1916. James was the son of James Reid.
9 Christopher Thomas Jolley born 23 Jun 1890 at Newtown Park married Mary Anne (Annie)
a Drapery Assistant in Blackrock the daughter of Abraham Shackleton, a farm and land
steward of Gortnagowna House, Roscrea, Co Tipperary on 11 Aug 1915 at the Parish Church,
Bourney, Co Tipperary. Christopher died 15 Jan 1982 and was buried at Deansgrange.
10 Edmond Robert Jolley born 22.09.1892 Rathdown married Alicia Emily Bradley on 25 Apr 1917
at St Jude’s Church, Dublin. They ran Glencarrig Guesthouse for a number of years. Alicia
died 6 Sep 1964 aged 79 years and Edmond died 27 May 1974 aged 82 and they are buried in
Glenealy.
