The Jolly/Jolley Family of Merville & Granby Place
Samuel Jolly son of John Jolly, a farmer/dairyman.
1 Samuel Jolley born circa 1833 son of John Jolly. He married Susan Fynn on 29 Jul 1857 at Monkstown
parish church. They lived at Newtown Park and then Tipperstown. They moved to Merville
in 1875, he opened a gravel pit on the land and went bankrupt in 1881 which was later annulled.
Susan died 14 Oct 1888 and was buried at Deansgrange. Samuel died on 8 Feb 1898 at 3
Granby Place and was buried at Stillorgan graveyard. His niece Jane Loftus Jolly of 47 Granby
Place was the informant.
1 Ellen Jolly born circa 1858 married Richard Buckley, a butcher of Stillorgan originally from
Co Wicklow and son of Thomas Buckley, butcher on 12 Mar 1878 at Stillorgan Parish Church.
Ellen died at Stillorgan 7 Feb 1885 age 27 and was buried at Deansgrange.
1 Edward Henry (Edmund) Buckley born 21 Jan 1879 baptised at Stillorgan died
9 Feb 1882 and was buried at Deansgrange.
2 Susan Elizabeth Buckley born 24 Feb 1881 baptised in Stillorgan died 14 May 1883 and
was buried at Deansgrange.
3 Hannah Buckley born circa 1882.
4 Eleanor Isabella Buckley born 13 Mar 1883 baptised at Stillorgan.
5 Harriet Emily Buckley born 5 Jun 1884 baptised at Stillorgan.
Richard secondly married Hannah Buckley, daughter of John Buckley, a farmer from
Knockbawn, Enniskerry on 29 Nov 1886 at Powerscourt Parish Church.
6 Hanna Elizabeth Buckley born 12 Aug 1887 baptised at Stillorgan died 8 Sep 1887 and
was buried at Deansgrange.
7 Hannah Wilhelmina Buckley born 8 Aug 1888.
8 Richard Smyth Buckley born 16 Dec 1889 baptised at Stillorgan.
9 Thomas Booth Buckley born 6 Aug 1893 baptised at Stillorgan.
10 John William Buckley born 1 Mar 1896 baptised at Stillorgan.
11 Edward Francis (Frank) Buckley born 23 Sep 1898 baptised at Stillorgan.
It is thought that this family emigrated to Canada.

3 Samuel Jolley was born circa 1859, a dairy farmer of Merville. He died a bachelor
20 Sep 1936 at Palmerstown House and was buried with his mother at Deansgrange.
4 Henry Jolley born circa 1861 was a carpenter and lived at Merville. He bred Airedale Terriers
and died a bachelor by his own hand at Merville on 3 Feb 1915 and was buried with his
mother in Deansgrange.
5 John Jolly born circa 1865 a dairyman married Josephine Elizabeth Semple daughter of
Joseph Mercer Semple on 25 Apr 1894 at Leeson Park. John died at the Adelaide Hospital on
18 Jun 1939, late of Eagle Cottage, Newtown Park and was buried at Deansgrange. Josephine
died at 17 Nov 1951 at the Molyneux Asylum, Leeson Park late of Chestnut Road and was
buried with her husband.

2 Samuel Joseph Jolly born 28 Mar 1896 at Newtown Park. Samuel of Merville married
Belinda Hennrietta Clara Collett nee Buller on 23 Aug 1937 at SS Philip and James,
officiated by Rev E H Lewis Crosby. (Photo above). Samuel took over Merville farm in
1936. He sold the farm and the dairy herd was sold in December 1947 along with all
the farm implements. Belinda died 24 Dec 1950 at Clifton Lodge Nursing Home late of
Chestnut Road, Mount Merrion and was buried with her parents in law in Deansgrange.
Samuel died at 106 Kilmacud Road on 10 Mar 1977 and was buried at Deansgrange.
6 Harriett Jolly born 3 May 1867 at Tipperstown, Stillorgan was living at Mulchanstown in
1901, she died 19 Jan 1950 at 46 Green Road, Blackrock, a spinster and is buried with
her mother in Deansgrange.
7 William Jolly born 14 Dec 1871 at Tipperstown, Stillorgan died 22 Jan 1872 aged 6 weeks
and was buried at Stillorgan graveyard.
2 John Jolly born circa 1836 in Wicklow married Mary Jane Booth from Redcross, Co Wicklow, and
daughter of George Loftus Booth, a bailiff at Powerscourt Church on 2 Sep 1857. Both were living at
Enniskerry and John was a servant. They ran the Post Office in Stillorgan from 1879 until his wife and
daughter were charged with embezzlement in 1881. Mary Jane died at 'rear of 47 Rutland
Square'/47a Granby Place on 20 Oct 1904 age 59. John died same place 1 May 1905. The informant
was his daughter Jane. John & Mary are buried in Stillorgan graveyard.
1 Anne Elizabeth Jolley born Stillorgan circa 1862 was charged with embezzlement in 1881
and sentenced to a year in Mountjoy prison.
2 Jane Loftus Jolly born 28 Feb 1867 at Stillorgan died at the Whitworth hospital 18 May 1909.
She was in the dairy business and lived at 47A Granby Place.
3 John William Jolley born 18 Jul 1870 at Stillorgan.
4 Lottie Jolley born Dublin circa 1873.
