John West a Woolen Draper of Dame Street married Caroline Busby, daughter of John Busby of New
Street in 1803. John was a Church Warden in Taney Church in 1835.
1 John West younger son born circa 1806 Fermanagh, educated at Whytes Academy by Prof
Von Feinagle of Luxembourg at the Feinaglian Institute based at what is now Aldborough
House. He graduated Trinity BA in 1827 and took Holy Orders. He was admitted Deacon on
24.08. 1829 and ordained curate for Glasnevin the same year. He moved to Ferns in 1830
before becoming the curate of Monkstown and then curate of St Anne’s, Dublin. He was
appointed Vicar of St Ann’s, secretary and domestic Chaplin to Archbishop Whately in 1840.
He became the Dean of St Patrick’s in 1841 and married Elizabeth Margarette (Bessie)
Dickinson eldest daughter of Charles John Dickenson the Bishop of Meath at Ardbraccan
Church on 30.09.1841. John died on 05.07.1890 aged 84 years at 4 Royal Marine Terrace,
Bray.

Elizabeth of Buena Vista, Killiney married Edward Dowden LLD DCL, a professor of the
University, a Widower son of John Wheeler Dowden on 12.12.1895 at the Parish Church,
Killiney. Edward died on 03.04.1913 aged 69 years at his residence Rochdale, Orwell
Park, Rathgar. Elizabeth died on 02.05.1932 aged 90 years at Fairfield, Churchtown.
2 Charles Dickinson West eldest son born circa 1847 a Professor of Mechanical
Engineering and Naval Architecture in Tokyo, Japan for 25 years. Charles died
unmarried on 09.01.1908 at the Toyko University Hospital.
3 Richard Whately West 2nd son born circa 1848 married Gertrude Ellen Ragg elder
daughter of the late Rev Thomas Ragg, Vicar of Lawley, Shropshire on 19.05.1893 at the
British Vice-Consualte, San Remo, Italy and All Saints Church, Bordighera. Richard died
on 23.02.1905 late of Villa Cassa Bianca, Alamio, Liguria, Italy.
4 John Russell West 4th son born circa 1850 died 17.08.1885 aged 35 years at 4 Royal
Marine Terrace, Bray late of 11 Upper Pembroke Street. Probate to his father John West.
5 Hercules Henry West born 06.12.1856 at 6 Wilton Square. Hercules was educated at
Marlborough College and obtained a scholarship in 1875 at Trinity. In 1876 he obtained a
Foundation Scholarship and in 1877 was awarded the College Greek Prose Prize and
brown medallist for Greek Epigram. Hercules died 04.06.1937 of Gorse Hill, Brownhill
Road, Chandlersford, Eastleigh, Hampshire. Probate to Arthur Dickinson.
6 Caroline Amy West born 05.06.1859 at 6 Wilton Square married Rev Hon Edward
Lyttelton son of Baron George William Lyttelton on 21.12.1888 at St Patricks Cathedral,
Dublin. Edward was headmaster of Haileybury College and played cricket for Cambridge
University and Middlesex. Caroline died on 06.07.1919 by her own hand, aged 46 years
at Overstrand near Cromer. Edward died on 26.01.1942 aged 86 years at the Old Palace,
Lincoln.
