Rev John Fane Vernon born circa 1790 was the second son of John Vernon of Clontarf Castle. He
married Frances Kearney, daughter of the Rt Rev John Kearney, Provost of Trinity and Bishop of
Ossory in December 1812. The Rev John died 7 Jun 1848 and Frances died on 20 May 1883 at
Monkstown.
1 Anna Vernon born circa 1814 married Sir Nicholas Chinnery of Flintfield, Cork on
27 Mar 1843 at St Peter’s Church in Dublin. They were killed in the Abergele Rail Crash in
1868 along with their dog and Anna’s maid Caroline Stearne. They are buried at St
Michael’s Churchyard in Abergele. Sir Nicholas left 120K in personal estate to his only
daughter Anna.
1 Anna Elizabeth Frances Margaretta Chinnery born 3 Jul 1844 at Cheltenham
married the Rev James Robert Alexander Haldane (who legally took the surname
Haldane-Chinnery) on 23 Aug 1864 St John’s Church, Paddington.
2 Frances Waller Vernon born circa 1815 died unmarried at 4 Grosvenor Tce, Kingstown on
16 Apr 1899.
3 John Edward Vernon born circa 1816 of Ballyhugh, Co Cavan married Harriett Leslie,
daughter of Rt Rev John Leslie DD, Bishop of Kilmore and his wife Isabella St Lawrence
on 2 Jul 1846 at Kilmore in Cavan. Harriett died on 22 Feb 1853 aged 29.
1 John Fane (Fane) Vernon born 5 Jul 1849 was educated at Marlborough and at
Christ Church Cambridge, graduated in 1872 and called to the Irish bar in 1874 but
never practiced. He was land agent for Lord Fitzwilliam, Earl of Pembroke. He was
a JP and DL of County Cavan and was the owner of Erne Hill, Belturbet, Co Cavan.
He married Thomasina Gertrude (Ina) Tombe, daughter of Henry Joy Tombe,
Canon of Christchurch on 11 May 1882. He was a director of the Bank of Ireland and
was governor in 1920, he was also chairman of the Great Northern Railway. Fane
died 10 Feb 1923 at 1 Wilton Place and left personal estate of 19K. His servants at
Erne Hill were bequeathed 1 years wages, if they were with him longer than 3 years.
1 Henry Arthur Vernon born 3 Oct 1892 at 1 Wilton Place. Henry married
Maureen O’Connor, daughter of Judge Charles Andrew O’Connor, Master of the
Rolls and of Hollywood, Glenealy on 24 Jul 1923. Henry died at 7A Wilton Tce
on 21 Nov 1950.
2 Edward Saunderson Vernon born circa 1851 married Georgina Rich and moved
to New Zealand in 1888.

Taney Church on 24 Jun 1875.

John secondly married Maria Esther Pomeroy Colley eldest daughter of George Francis Pomeroy
Colley and Frances (Fanny) Trench on 17 Nov 1857 at Taney Church, Dundrum. John was the land
agent for Lord Fitzwilliam. He was also a commissioner appointed under the land Act (Ireland) of
1881. He died on 7 Mar 1887 aged 70 at 1 Wilton Place Dublin, late of Booterstown. Maria died
8 May 1899 late of Castlepark, Kingstown.
5 Anna Lilian Vernon born 3 Mar 1859 at Mount Merrion House, baptised at Taney,
died a spinster on 16 Jan 1917 at Ballybrack House Killiney and left 8K in
personal estate.
6 Helen Rose Vernon born 7 Nov 1860 at Mount Merrion, baptised at Taney
married John Thomas Gibbings of Carrickmacross, son of Richard Gibbings on
29 Nov 1907 at St Stephens Church, Dublin. John was a JP and the land agent to
the Shirley estate. Helen died on 28 Jul 1944 at Abbeylands, Killiney.
7 Blanche Vernon born 30 Sep 1863 at Mount Merrion, baptised at Taney married
Granville J Cole, a professor of Engineering and son of John Cole at Dalkey
Church on 18 Apr 1895. Blanche died at Orahora in Carrickmines on
17 Nov 1927.
8 George Arthur Pomeroy (Arthur) Vernon born 19 Sep 1865 at Mount Merrion
baptised at Taney was an estate agent and living at 1 Wilton Place when he
married Mildred Blanche Bloomfield Trench, daughter of Henry Bloomfield Trench
of Portarlington on 2 Jun 1897 at St Stephen’s Church Dublin. George died circa
1819 at 29 Pembroke Road, Dublin.
9 Walter Pomeroy Vernon born 23 May 1867 at Mount Merrion, baptised at Taney
died 10 Oct 1890.
