George Francis Pomeroy born 1797 the 3rd son of Rev John Pomeroy 4th Viscount Harberton
and Esther Spencer. George was elected a life member of the RDS in 1824 having been
proposed by Fenton Hort of Leopardstown House. He married Frances Trench on 22.07.1825
at Lea Church, Queen's County. Fanny was the daughter of the Very Rev Thomas Trench,
Dean of Kilmore and Mary Weldon. She was also a niece of 1st Baron Ashtown. In 1830
George assumed the surname Colley. They family lived at Merrion Square Dublin, and at Ferney,
Stillorgan from 1863 to 1880. Francis died in 1871 aged 74 years at Ferney and George, a JP died
in 1879 aged 81 years at Ferney.
1 Henry FitzGeorge Pomeroy Colley eldest son born 01.07.1827 at Merrion married 12.08.1858
Elizabeth Isabella Wingfield daughter of the Rev Hon William Wingfield and Elizabeth Kelly.
Henry died 24.11.1886 aged 59 years and Elizabeth died 18.11.1903 both at Mount Temple,
Clontarf.
2 John Thomas Pomeroy Colley born 31.07.1828 at Merrion died unmarried on 27.01.1855
aged 26 years.
3 Major Gen Sir George Pomeroy Colley 3rd son born 01.11.1835 at Kildare Street married Edith
Althea eldest daughter of Major Gen Henry Meade Hamilton on 14.03.1878 at Leix Church,
Queens County. George was killed in action at Majuba Hill, Natal, South Africa during the Boer
War on 27.02.1881.
Edith then married Wentworth Blackett Beaumont (Baron Allendale) on 17.02.1891 at St Paul’s
Knightsbridge. Lord Allendale died on 13.02.1907. Edith died 19.05.1927 at 32 Queen Anne’s
Gate, Westminster.
4 Maria Esther Pomeroy Colley eldest daughter married John Edward Vernon of Ballyhugh, Co
Cavan son of the Rev John Fane Vernon on 17.11.1857 at Taney Church, Dundrum. John had
already 3 children with his 1st wife, Fane, Edward Saunderson and Isabella Frances. John died
on 07.03.1887 aged 70 years at Wilton Place, Dublin and late of Booterstown. John was an agent
for the Earl of Pembroke’s Irish Estate. Maria died on 08.05.1899 late of Castlepark, Kingstown.

2 Helen Rose Vernon born 07.11.1860 at Mount Merrion.
3 Blanche Vernon born 30.09.1863 at Mount Merrion.

5 Elizabeth Pomeroy Colley born circa 1842 in Switzerland was living at Clontarf in 1901. Elizabeth
died unmarried late of Shanganagh Terrace, Killiney on 28.09.1910 at Carbury, Minehead, Somerset.
