Alexander Hamilton born circa 1838 son of Rev William Hamilton of Dungannon was
educated at Queen’s College, Belfast. He was an inspector of National Schools in 1868.
A widower of Lakeview, Dungannon, he married Annie Lindsay a widow on 24 Jul 1877
at Elmwood Presbyterian Church, Belfast. Annie was the daughter of the Rev William
McHinch and the widow of John Lindsay. He was a school inspector in Derry and
transferred to Galway 1889 as district inspector. He was transferred as head inspector
from Galway to Belfast in 1892. He was appointed junior secretary to the National
Schools Board in 1898. They lived at Glensavage from 1901 to 1906 and in 1903
allowed the use of the grounds for a fete to raise funds for St Andrew’s Presbyterian
Church on Mount Merrion Avenue. Alexander died 11 Sep 1905, the residence of his
daughter and son in law. He was buried at Belfast City Cemetery and left 5K in
personal estate. Annie was living on Kill Avenue in 1911. Annie died 15 Oct 1936 and
was buried with her husband.
1 Annie Ethel Hamilton eldest daughter born 11 Nov 1878 at Lake View,
Dungannon died 17 Aug 1894 at Groomsport, Bangor aged 15 and was buried
at Belfast City Cemetery.
2 Leslie Ross Hamilton born 29 Mar 1880 at Lake View, Dungannon attended St
Andrew’s College, Stephen’s Green. He was studying for exams and took his own
life. He died at 23 Highfield Road on 30 May 1897.
3 Kathleen Hamilton born 2 Dec 1881 at Howard Terrace, Dungannon. She married
Noel Richard Ponsonby Staples on 7 Mar 1905 at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church,
Booterstown. Noel was the son of Thomas Staples of Stillorgan.
4 Flora Lindsay Hamilton youngest daughter born 27 Mar 1886 at Howard Terrace,
Dungannon, County Tyrone. She married William Wallace Boyce on 26 Oct 1909 at
St Andrew’s Church, Bombay. William was with the RAMC and the son of J Wallace
Boyce, MD of Blackrock.
