Thomas Staples born circa 1825 son of Reverend John Molesworth Staples and Anne
Alexander. He was the only brother of Sir Nathaniel Staples, Baronet. He married Grace
Wolseley on 11 Jun 1868 at the Parish Church, Kilrush, Co Clare. Grace was the daughter
of the Rev William Hulbert Wolseley, vicar of Kilrush and his wife Elizabeth Dawson.
Thomas was a major in the Bengal Army. The ceremony was performed by Grace’s father.
Grace wore a gown of white silk trimmed with satin and her bridesmaids work white
dresses trimmed with blue ribbon. The reception was held at the rectory and they
honeymooned in Killarney and the continent. Thomas retired in 1880, was granted the
rank of Major General and they lived at Palmerston Road. Thomas died 23 Oct 1884 at
the Glebe House, Kilrush, the Rev W H Wolseley the informant. He was buried at Kilrush.
Grace later lived at Atbara, Stillorgan Park and died 11 Oct 1934 at Greenville, Stradbrook
Road, Blackrock aged 83. Her son John in attendance and she was buried at Deansgrange.
1 John Molesworth Staples eldest son born 2 May 1869 at 35 Lower Baggot Street,
Dublin. He was a civil servant and a clerk in the probate court in 1901. John of
Atbara, Stillorgan Park married Helen Lucy Johnstone Barrington on
26 Apr 1905 at Taney Church. Helen was the daughter of Richard William
Barrington of Eden Park. They lived at 14 Clyde Road from 1917. John died
22 May 1948 at 14 Clyde Road and was buried at Deansgrange. Helen died
28 Feb 1975 in London and left 12K in personal estate. She was buried at
Deansgrange.
1 John Richard Staples born 5 April 1906 at 15 Raglan Road. He married
Sybella Wade in 1933 at Shere in Surrey and became the 14th Baronet in
1970.
2 Alice Henrietta Staples born 12 December 1909 at 15 Raglan Road.
3 Eileen Patience Staples born 24 Aug 1917 at 14 Clyde Road.
2 Thomas Staples born 27 Jul 1870 at Sialkot, Bengalin India. He was an insurance
clerk living at Atbara, Stillorgan Park. He married Mary Ussher (Daisy) Greer
from Tyrone on 14 Apr 1903 at Lissan Church, Londonderry. The reception was
held at Lissan Hall. Daisy was the younger daughter of Frederick Greer of
Tullylagan, Co Tyrone. Thomas (Totttie) lived at Proby Square and moved to
Wakefield, 5 Ulster Terrace in 1911 and later to 4 Glenart Avenue. He worked
for Standard Life Assurance and died 4 Apr 1963 at Gascoigne House, Camden
Row, late of 14 Sydney Ave, Blackrock. His funeral service was held at All Saints,
Blackrock and he was buried at Deansgrange. Mary died at Castle Clare,
Greystones on 23 Nov 1966.
1 Thomas Staples born 9 Feb 1905 at Grove Cottage, Stillorgan, Co Dublin
became the 15th Baronet of Lissan in 1989. He married and died
without issue so the title passed to his younger brother.
2 Grace Staples born 15 Jul 1906 at Grove Cottage, Stillorgan. Grace of 4
Glenart Avenue married Horace Roland Rambaut Dowd on 22 Apr 1932
at All Saint’s Blackrock. Horace a business man was and living at
Beechwood Avenues, Ranelagh and was the youngest son of Charles
Dowd.
3 Gerald James A Staples born 2 Dec 1909 at Rubio, Proby Square became
the 16th Baronet of Lissan in 1997. He married and had two daughters
so the title passed to his younger brother on his death.
4 Elizabeth Staples second daughter born 1 Dec 1911 at 5 Ulster Terrace.
She married Henry Eric St George (Eric) Harpur second son of Henry
Maziere Harpur on 5 Jul 1933 at All Saints, Blackrock was nearly 20
years his junior and they had a daughter. Eric volunteered in 1914 was
granted a commission in 1915 with the Royal Irish Rifles. He was living
at Lime Park, Caledon Co Tyrone from 1918 to 1921 and ran it as a poultry
farm. Eric died within hours of his father in a Belfast Hospital on
27 Nov 1947. He was interred at Loughgilly, Co Armagh in a double
funeral. He was survived by his widow and 10 year old daughter
Elizabeth. His widow Elizabeth had a second and third marriage.
5 Richard Molesworth Ponsonby Staples born 11 Jun 1914 at 5 Ulster
Terrace was educated at St Andrew's College, Dublin; fought in the
Second World War, in Burma and was with the Royal Air Force, 1940-52.
He became the 17th Baron in 1999. He married but had no issue. He
made efforts to find an heir before his death. The title which was granted
in 1628 by King Charles I to Thomas Staples of Lissan is now in abeyance.
3 Richard Noel Ponsonby Staples born 25 Dec 1879 at 17 Crosthwaite Park west,
Kingstown attended TCD and was a clerk in the probate division. He was living
at Atbara, Stillorgan Park and married Kathleen Hamilton on 7 Mar 1905 at St
Andrew’s Church, Booterstown. Kathleen was resident at Glensavage, Blackrock
and was the daughter of Alexander Ross Hamilton. By 1911 they living at Bawn
Villa, Tallaght. They had two children of whom 3 survived in 1911. The family
emigrated to Canada in 1924.

2 Richard Nathaniel Staples born 19 Jun 1908 at Old Bawn went to Canada
in 1924.
3 Anne Veronica Staples born 10 Sep 1910 at Bawn Villa went to Canada in

4 Flora Hamilton Staples born 21 Jan 1912 went to Canada in 1924.
5 Kathleen Staples 31 Mar 1920 at Ardgroom, Silchester Road went to
