Joseph Braddell Boyce born circa was the third son of Joseph Boyce, alderman JP, DL (1798-1879)
and merchant dealing in wine, silk and haberdashery. Joseph and was living at 52 Upper Mount
Street when he married Isabella Henrietta Wallace only daughter of Samuel Wallace of 70 Lower
Leeson Street on 27 July 1850 at St Peter's Church, Dublin. Joseph was also a merchant and moved
to 9 Herbert Street after his marriage. He died 18 Jan 1859 and Isabella died 31May 1908 aged 77
at Lower Mount Street.
1 Joseph Wallace Boyce born 20 Feb 1853 at 9 Herbert Street was baptised at St Stephen's
Church, Dublin. He was living at Foxrock when he married Elizabeth Frances Isabel (Lizzie)
Blacker, second daughter of Edward M Blacker on 31 Jul 1875 at St Andrew's Church,
Dublin. Elizabeth died 7 Jan 1899.
1 Violet Isobel Boyce (twin) born 30 Apr 1876 at Belmont Tce baptised at Stillorgan
Church married widower Thomas Wilson Fair, son of John Fair at St John's Church
Sandymount on 8 Sep 1908. Thomas was a manager of the British & Irish Steam
Packet Company.
2 Daisy Hannah Boyce (twin) born 30 Apr 1876 at Belmont Tce baptised at Stillorgan
Church.
3 William Joseph Wallace Boyce born 5 Feb 1883 at Belmont Tce baptised at St Brigid's
Church. He was educated at Avoca School and Trent College England, before
undertaking a medical degree in Dublin. Captain of Donnybrook Hockey team he was
capped for Ireland. He received a commission in RAMC and married Flora Lindsay
Hamilton on 26 Oct 1909 at St Andrew’s Church, Bombay. Flora was the daughter of
Alexander Ross Hamilton. He served during WW1 and was posted to Malta for
five years before taking up a posting in London. He died aged in London in
November 1926 leaving a widow and three children.
He moved to Glenart Avenue in 1887 after taking up the position of Medical Officer for
Blackrock, it was a condition of his contract that he would reside in the said district. He
secondly married Elizabeth Jane Barron Stanton from Cork, the widow of Martin Burke and
the daughter of William Barron Stanton on 30 Oct 1900 at Monkstown Church. Elizabeth had
two children by her previous marriage - Shuldham Burke and, Elizabeth Mary Cecil Burke who
married George Luthor Pollock on 5 Feb 1908 at Stillorgan Parish Church with her
step-sister Violet as her witness. Elizabeth died 28 Dec 1902 at St Kilda's, Avoca Avenue. She
left her personal fortune in trust for her two children.
Joseph held a degree of Doctor of Medicine from University of Dublin and a diploma from the
Royal College of Physicians. He was Medical Officer for Blackrock from 1887 to 1936. Joseph
thirdly married Louisa Marie Thompson on 23 Jul 1907. Joseph died 26 Jun 1944 aged 91 at
Avoca Cottage.
