Nicholas Mulchinock married Christiana

Nicholas who had converted to Roman Catholicism in 1778 was accidently shot as he was passing
an assembled mob on the street in Tralee.
1 Michael Mulchinock son of Nicholas and Christiana baptised on 17.08.1779 in the Church of
Ireland, Tralee. Michael married Margaret McCan on 08.01.1804 at Tralee. Margaret was the
daughter of John McCan, an attorney. Michael died of fever circa 28.09.1828 in Tralee and
Margaret died on 21.11.1853 after a short illness at her residence Ballyard near Tralee.
1 John Mulchinock baptised on 18.03.1807 at the RC Church in Tralee.
2 Elizabeth Mulchinock born circa 1811 married Jeremiah King a Solicitor on
27.03.1836 at the RC in Tralee. Eliza died circa 09.06.1840 aged 29 years after a
long and painful illness at Cove. Jeremiah died on 06.07.1873 aged 84 years at
Stradbrook Hall the residence of his daughter Margaret.
1 Margaret King baptised on 30.11.1837 at the RC Church in Tralee married
James William Vaughan on 09.07.1863 at St Mary’s Catholic Church,
Haddington Road, Dublin. James died on 29.04.1873 aged 44 years and
Margaret died by her own hand on 16.12.1876 aged 39 years both at
Stradbrook Hall, Dublin. Probate was granted to her uncle Edward
Mulchinock.
2 Jeremiah King eldest son baptised on 22.02.1838 at the RC Church in Tralee.
Jeremiah died circa 06.01.1847 at Tralee.
3 Son King born circa 27.02.1839 at Tralee.
4 Son King born circa 12.05.1840 at Cove.
3 Maria Mulchinock, 2nd daughter married Nicholas King MD on 17.02.1833 in Tralee.
Maria died on 11.02.1847 at her residence Wilton Square. Nicholas formerly of Kerry
and Upper Fitzwilliam Street died on 06.03.1874 aged 70 years at 64 Fitzwilliam
Square.

2 Maurice King baptised on 13.07.1834 at the RC Church in Tralee. Maurice only
son died circa 29.11.1841 at Ryde in the Isle of Wight.
3 Julia Maria King baptised on 12.04.1836 at the RC Church in Tralee unmarried in
1874. Julia died on 03.12.1903 at the Euston Hotel, London. Probate to Mary
Kate Barron.
4 Elizabeth King baptised on 02.10.1837 at the RC Church in Tralee.
5 Margaret Kate King youngest daughter married John Marcus Barron of
Georgestown House, Waterford son of Pierce Barron on 28.09.1875 at St Michael’s
Church, Kingstown. John died on 19.07.1880 aged 36 years at Turret House,
Tramore.
1 Catherine Mary Barron born 09.02.1877 at 16 Lower Mount Street.
4 Julia Mulchinock youngest daughter baptised on 19.05.1813 at the RC Church in Tralee.
Julia died January 1836 at her mother’s residence on Denny Street.
5 Arthur Mulchinock baptised on 12.09.1815 at the RC Church in Tralee.
6 Catherine Mulchinock baptised on 17.09.1817 at the RC Church in Tralee.
7 Nicholas Burdett Mulchinock baptised 02.02.1819 at the RC Church in Tralee. Nicholas died
circa 24.11.1840 in Tralee.
8 William Pembroke Mulchinock baptised on 05.03.1820 at the RC Church in Tralee. William
a poet and writer is credited with writing the song “The Rose of Tralee”. The story goes that
William fell in love with Mary a servant in the house and the relationship was frowned on
because of the differences in their social standing. At a local political rally in 1843 William
was accused of killing a person. Hoping to split the couple up his father had secured a
commission for him in India and he fled there. He arrived home on the day of Mary’s funeral.
It is said that was when he composed the song. Shortly afterwards circa 1846 William
married Alice Keogh and they immigrated with their daughter Alice on board the ship
“Noemie” from Liverpool arriving in New York when Alice was 11 months old on 25.09.1849.
In America he wrote for the Tribune and other papers. William returned to Ireland alone in
1855 and died 18.10.1864 aged 44 years of a fever at his residence on Nelson Street, Tralee.

9 Edward Mulchinock baptised 30.05.1822 at the RC Church in Tralee married Mary Spring Rice
youngest surviving daughter of Dominic Rice of Bushmount on 19.10.1854 at Killury, Kerry.
Edward inherited a vast fortune from his Uncle John Mulchinock who had died in 1863.
Edward died on 01.03.1880 aged 56 years at 53 Pembroke Road and Mary died on 02.02.1908
aged 84 years at 56 Wellington Road.
1 Frances Annie Mulchinock born circa 28.07.1855 married Stephen W Mackey son of
Charles Mackey on 29.11.1877 at Haddington Road.
2 Captain Michael Edward Mulchinock eldest son born 01.10.1856 at Kerry of the
Royal Irish Rifles married Margaret Campbell Linden Verley daughter of William
Linden and widow of late Albert Louis Verley of Kingston, Jamaica circa 06.11.1886
at St Joseph’s Church, Highgate.
3 Margaret Mulchinock born circa 14.03.1858 married Edmund Joseph Hoey of
Kilmacud House son of Robert Hoey on 24.04.1883 at the Church of St Mary’s,
Haddington Road. Edmund died on 03.03.1887 aged 26 years at 101 Lower
Mount Street.
1 Ethel Mary Hoey born 15.11.1883 at 7 Trafalgar Terrace, Monkstown.
2 Edmond Joseph Hoey born 15.11.1887 at 3 Elgin Road and baptised at St
Mary’s Haddington Road. It is thought that Edmond went to New York
circa 1909.
4 John Joseph Mulchinock baptised on 06.07.1859 at Ballyard became 2nd Lieutenant
in 1877 and married Delia Blacquiere daughter James Blacquiere Rose Mount,
Howth on 31.07.1884 at St Andrews’s Church, Dublin. They divorced in 1892. John
late of Sandymount died on 25.02.1902 aged 42 years at 3 Archer Road, Kensington.
5 Mary Baptista Mulchinock born 29.08.1861 baptised of Ballyard at Tralee died on
25.09.1909 at St Giles, London.
6 Julia Christiana Mulchinock baptised 27.02.1863 of Ballyard. Julia now living at 10
Adelaide Street married John Joseph Cartan of Ardenza Terrace, Monkstown son of
Mathew Cartan on 22.06.1903 at St Michael’s Church, Kingstown. John died on
22.09.1914 aged 50 years at 6 Raglan Road and Julia married John Colohan MD son
of James Colohan on 15.12.1915 at St Mary’s Church, Haddington Road.
7 Elizabeth Sarah Mulchinock born 17.05.1864 baptised on 26.05.1864 at the RC
Church in Tralee married William Francis McSwiney 2nd son of late Bryan McSwiney
of 15 Waterloo Place on 25.04.1891 in Chicago.
8 Ann Wilhelmina Mulchinock of Cloghers born 07.10.1865 baptised on 22.10.1865
at the Roman Catholic Church in Tralee.
10 Henry Mulchinock fourth and youngest son baptised on 27.07.1823 at the RC Church in Tralee.
Henry died circa 28.11.1829 aged 6 years at his mother’s home on the Mall.
2 John Mulchinock baptised 02.03.1781 in the Church of Ireland, Tralee brother of Michael. John
became a Roman Catholic in middle life and died unmarried on 30.09.1863 aged 84 years at
Cloghers. Inheritance to nephew Edward only surviving son of John. Large sums of money were
left to establish the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy and the Monastery of the Christian Brothers in
Tralee. Mention is made in his will of his sister in law Anne Pembroke and friend Catherine Wall.
3 Christiana Mulchinock baptised 23.03.1782 in the Church of Ireland, Tralee. Christiana died
circa 15.12.1841.
