Thomas Jackson born circa 1821 eldest son of William Dealtry Jackson of Tyron’s Place, Hackney
married Caroline Mary Jones, second daughter of E H Jones of Well Street, Hackney at St John’s
Hackney in May 1851. The family lived at Ware Hill House, Great Amwell, Herts before moving to
Chelmsford in 1886. Thomas was brother in law to William West Jones (11 May 1838 – 21 May 1908)
who was the second Bishop and first Archbishop of Cape Town. Thomas was very involved with
both the local church of All Saint's and also at Diocesan level, being financial secretary for the
Diocesan Board of Education. In 1890 he donated a new organ to All Saints Church. He died
6 Dec 1897 at Chelmsford and there was a memorial service at All Saints and he was buried at Great
Amwell and left 176K in personal estate. Caroline died at 27 Aug 1917 and was buried with her
husband.
1 Thomas Jackson eldest son, was a member of the firm Sandilands and Co, Solicitors of
Fenchurch Avenue, Fenchurch-street. He was churchwarden of Springfield Church and parish.
He married Grace Mary (Tooey) Orpen only surviving daughter of Arthur Herbert Orpen at
Stillorgan Parish Church on 28 April 1897. Grace was the granddaughter of the Right Rev Dr
Caulfeild, Bishop of Nassau and Thomas was the grandson of the Archbishop of Cape Town.
The church was decorated by 16 of the local ladies, an arch of clematis, lilies and moss and
another arch of gorse were erected, the rest of the church was filled with primroses. Grace
was a member of the choir and they sang at her wedding. Grace wore an ivory white satin dress
and her six bridesmaids were dressed in yellow and had each been presented with a gold
bangle engraved with the initials GJ. Her veil was fastened by a diamond star, a gift from
the groom. They honeymooned in the Channel Islands and resided at 40 Clanricarde Gardens,
Notting Hill Gate in London after their marriage. They moved to Holmfels at Reigate which
Thomas put up for sale in 1903. They moved to the family home at Chelmsford before moving
to Farmleigh in Stillorgan circa 1915. Thomas died at Farmleigh on 24 Jan 1936 and left 28K in
personal estate. Grace built a new modern house for herself and called it Holmfels (now the
site of Cedarmount on St Brigid's Church Road). Grace died 19 Nov 1944 at Holmfels,
Stillorgan. Both were buried at St Brigid’s Graveyard, Stillorgan.

3 Brigid Ethel Jackson born 1901 at Paddington was educated at Reigate High school and
graduated from Trinity College Dublin. She was headmistress of Newcastle Church School
in Alnwick, Llandudno and died a spinster in a car accident on 5 Mar 1943.
4 Patience Gertrude Jackson born 27 Aug 1904 at Holmfels, Reigate, Surrey.
5 Thomas Jackson born 11 Jun 1906 at Holmfels, Reigate Surrey. Thomas was a solicitor and
married Beatrice (Biddy) Darley on 6 Sep 1932 at St Brigid's Church, Stillorgan. Biddy was the
daughter of Frederick Digby Darley, solicitor and Beatrice Maud Elizabeth Waller.
6 Mary Frances Jackson born 1909 at Holmfels, Reigate, Surrey.
7 Rachel Winifred Jackson born 1913 at Reigate, Surrey died at Glasnevin on 28 Nov 1968.
2 Charles Henry Jackson, second son born 1855 at Wormley, Herts and baptised 3 Feb 1856
married Elizabeth Heather Parrott, daughter of Rev Richard Parrott, Vicar of Great Amwell on
16 Jul 1880.
3 Frank Baines Jackson, third son married Matilda Mary de Zoete, youngest daughter of the late Mr
Samuel Herman de Zoete, of Pickhurst Mead, Hayes in May 1892.
4 Herbert Kendall Jackson, was educated at Wellington and the Royal Military Academy at
Woolwich. He joined the Royal Artillery and attained the rank of Major and was invested with the
Distinguished Service Order by the King at St James’s Palace in June 1901. He served in both the
Boer and the Great war. He married Winifred Gladys Llewellin of Brookfield, Blandford in 1901.
The couple had a son and two daughters.
5 William Mincham Jackson, fifth son was member of the Stock Exchange. He married and died in
September 1914.
6 Landon Dealtry Jackson was baptised at Wormley, Hertfordshire on 25 May 1862 and attended
the Royal Military Academy Woolwich. He attained the rank of Brigadier General in 1914 and
retired in 1917. He died at Brighton in 1932.
7 Arthur Aubert Jackson took Holy orders and was Vicar of Horspath. He married Eva, youngest
daughter of the late George Gaviller Styles, Knockhall. Greenhithe on 1 Oct 1895 at Swanscombe.
8 Edward Henry Jackson, youngest son married Dorothy Joan Atkins, eldest daughter of Robert C
Atkins, of 'Montpelier', Bristol at Priory Church, Great Malvern on 13 Apr 1898. Dorothy was
granddaughter of Nathaniel Simpson of Rearsby, Leicestershire.
9 Mary Phoebe Jackson born circa 1852 was unmarried in 1917.
10 Frances Ellen Jackson, second daughter, third child born circa 1854 married Gerard de Zoete on
10 Nov 1885. Frances died in 3 Oct 1905 at Tunbridge Wells.
11 Caroline Mabel Jackson married Harry E Jones of Epsom, younger son of the late Charles Collier
Jones on 4 Oct 1904 at All Saints Church.
