John Fitzsimons Married Ellen Benedicta Magawly
Captain John Fitzsimons of Castlewood, Balliboy, king’c County married Ellen Benadicta Magawly, eldest
daughter of Count Magawly of Frankfort, Kings County.
1 Nicholas Fitzsimons eldest son born circa 1806. Nicholas married Catherine Power, second
daughter of Sir John Power of Roebuck House in May 1829. He lived at Broughall Castle and
served as MP for Kings County from 1833 and had a residence at 66 Jermyn Street, London. He
was appointed a magistrate of the Head Police Office in Dublin and was knighted by the Lord
Lieutenant, Earl Fortescue in 1841. He was a repeal MP so with the acceptance of a knighthood
he was seen as a turncoat. As Head Police Office he earned £560 pa and they had a town
residence at Harcourt Street until 1841. They lived at Eden Park, Drummartin from 1841 to 1844,
their country residence was Broughhall Castle. In 1848 he was appointed Inspector General of
Prisons on a salary of £1200 pa. Sir Nicholas died at Broughall Castle at 31 Jul 1849. Dame
Catherine Fitzsimons died at Leeson Street Lower on 13 Feb 1881 aged 77. Her executrix was
Mrs Margaret Codd of Corrig Avenue (widow of Francis Augustus Codd). No issue was found.
