The De Montmorency family at Marino Park
Francis Hervey Morres born 1 Sep 1756, son of Hervey Morres and Mary Wall. He was educated at
Trinity College, Dublin. He married Anne Reade, daughter of Joseph Reade of Castle Hoyle on
24 Apr 1794. He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Mountmorres on 17 Aug 1797. He also succeeded
on the same date as 3rd Viscount Mountmorres of Castlemorres, Kilkenny and 11th Baronet Morres
of Knockagh, Tipperary. On 17 Jun 1815 his name was legally changed to Francis Hervey de
Montmorency by Royal Licence. He died at Merrion Street on 23 Mar 1833.
1 Hervey De Montmorency only son born 20 Aug 1796. He was educated at Trinity College
Dublin, graduated BA 1826 an LLD 1836. He took Holy orders and married Sarah Shaw on
5 Jul 1831 at Celbridge Church. Sarah was the daughter of William Shaw of Temple Hill,
Celbridge. They honeymooned in Wales. He succeeded as 4th Viscount on the death of his
father in 1833. He published "A Brief Notice of the Past and Present Parties, the chief
doctrines of the Established Church, and subscription to the Articles, especially in relation
to Ireland" in 1842. He was appointed Dean of Cloyne in 1846 and Chaplain to the Lord
Lieutenant the same year. He appealed for help in 1847 as 5K people in the western district
of Cloyne and Ross had died of want and a further 10K were in danger of dying unless
something was done. He was chair of the Kildorey Relief Committee. He was made Dean
of Achonry in 1850. He was Magistrate for Sligo in 1851. He died on 24 Jan 1872 at The
Grove, Killiney and left £1500 in personal estate. He was buried at Carrickbrennan
(Monkstown old graveyard). On his death, Sarah his wife became The Dowager Viscountess
Mountmorres. She lived at Marino Park Mount Merrion from 1874 to 1877. She died at
Marino Park on 22 Feb 1877 and was buried at the old graveyard in Monkstown. She left
9K in personal estate.
1 William Browne De Montmorency eldest son born 21 Apr 1832 was educated at
Kilkenny College and Graduated Trinity Ba in 1860. He was a magistrate for Galway.
He married Harriett Broderick in 1862. Harriett was the daughter of George
Broderick and Jane Fletcher of Hamphall Stubbs, Yorkshire. He succeeded at 5th
Viscount on the death of his father in 1872. He was murdered at Busheen, near
Cong in Galway on 25 Sep 1880. He left £500 in personal estate. He was buried at
Monkstown old graveyard.

2 Harriett Evelyn De Montmorency born 3 oct 1867 at Ebor Hall.
3 William Geoffrey Bouchard de Montmorency born 23 Sep 1872 at Ebor
Hall. He became the Sixth Viscount on the death of his father. He was
educated at Radley and Balliol College, Oxford. He married Bessie
Louise Cameron Rowe of Redruth Cornwall in 1894. Bessie was the
youngest daughter of S T Rowe of Precarroll, Redruth. He was
Director of the Tropical Institute between 1904 and 1908 at Liverpool
University and author of ‘The Congo Independent State: A Report on a
Voyage of Enquiry’. He was declared bankrupt in 1909. He secondly
married Tempe Irene Cross, daughter of Charles Frederick Cross, on
10 Apr 1934. He died on 2 Dec 1936. Irene died three months later from
carbon monoxide poisoning aged 27.
2 Hervey De Montmorency died 1 Sep 1834 aged 9 months and is remembered on the
family headstone at Carrickbrennan.
3 Francis Raymond De Montmorency second surviving son born 6 May 1835 at Flower
Grove, Rochestown Avenue. He graduated Trinity College and was called to the Bar
in 1863. He married Elizabeth Hester Matthews on 1 Jun 1865 at St George’s Church
Dublin. Elizabeth was the youngest daughter of Lieut Col J Echlin Matthews of
Thorndale, Drumcondra. Elizabeth died on 1 Nov 1903 at Willmount, Shankhill.
Francis died at Buxton in September 1910 late of Willmount, Shankhill.
4 Albert Bouchard M De Montmorency, third son born circa 1840 was appointed a
lieutenancy in the Madras Artillery in 1858. He attained the rank of Colonel and died
in 1899 at 22, Ryder Street, St James’ and left 10K in personal estate.
5 Arthur Hill Trevor De Montmorency fourth and youngest son born 19 Feb 1846. He
studied medicine and later horticulture. He married Caroline Kemmis at
Booterstown Church on 28 Mar 1878. Caroline was the daughter of the Rev George
Kemmis of St Helen’s, Blackrock and formerly of Camira, Queen’s County. They were
living at Kerrymount, Foxrock in 1901 and they had four children of whom all
survived in 1911. Arthur died 1 Jan 1910 at The Grange, Carrickmines age 63.
Caroline of St Helen’s Bay died 26 Jul 1937.
6 Sarah Ann De Montmorency married Richard Pennefather at St Anne’s Dublin on
7 Dec 1868.
7 Victoria De Montmorency married widower Evory Carmichael on 16 Jul 1878 at the
Mariner;s Church, Monkstown on 16 Jul 1878.
2 Maria Morres eldest daughter. Her name was changed to De Montmorency in 1815. She
married William Mahon at St Peter’s Church Dublin on 13 Jan 1826.
3 Daughter Morres
4 Julianna Morres youngest daughter born circa 1811. Her name was changed to De
Montmorency in 1815. She married Humphrey Mitchell at St Mark’s, Dublin on
31 Aug 1830. Her brother Hervey officiated. She died at North Richmond Street Dublin on
6 Sep 1895.
