Wilkinson Family of Glen Albyn, Stillorgan and Holy Well, Drummartin.
John Wilkinson born circa 1805, a farmer of Clonee, Co Meath died at 7 Eden Ville, Mount Merrion
Avenue in 1895.
Two of his sons were Master Salesmen at Smithfield and the Dublin Cattle Market.
1 Richard Wilkinson born circa 1835 in Meath worked for Messrs Hickey and Handbury but in 1862
he opened his own firm with the help of his two brothers and traded as a Corn Hay and Potato
factor in Smithfield as he could not get a standing as a Cattle Salesman. In 1863 he was in
partnership with Robert Smith. He married Mary Anne Eldridge, the stepdaughter of John Dela
Hunt late of Tasmania at Edgeware London on 09.06.1866. The partnership with Robert Smith at
50 Smithfield was dissolved in 1867 and took his brother John into partnership. They traded from
50-51 Smithfield as R and J Wilkinson, Master Salesmen, Seed Merchants and Corn & Hay Factors.
They also provided a cattle park/lairage opposite the market. In 1883 they moved to 40-41 Prussia
Street when sales of cattle were restricted to the Dublin cattle market due to foot and mouth
disease. By 1895 R & J Wilkinson, along with Ganleys and Gavin Low, were selling outside the
market due to the lack of an auction ring for store cattle.
Richard was a JP and lived at Balcorris, in Santry and had a town house at 2 Mountjoy Square. He
moved to Prospect in Templeogue, and died on a visit to his brother at Glen Albyn on 01.09.1907
leaving 21K in personal estate.

5 William Henry Wilkinson born 14.04.1875 at Balcorris, Santry. He was a Salesmaster
and lived at Jubilee Hall Bray. He married Louise Gladys Warner daughter of Thomas
Renfair Warner of Somerville, Rathfarnham at St Peter's Church Dublin on 17.06.1910
and moved to Holywell, Drummartin. He died at Tyrellstown in 1954 leaving 15K in
personal estate.

and daughter of Charles T Lewis at St Philip's Church Milltown on 04.02.1942.
2 James Wilkinson born circa 1836 at Meath went into partnership with his brother Richard in
1867. He married Anne Wilton Gibson on 18.02.1870 at Stonehall Parish Church, Westmeath.
In 1901 they were living at Glenart, Grove Avenue Stillorgan and his spinster sister Hannah Maria
lived with them. By 1904 they were living at Glenn Albyn. John died at the Crichton Royal Institute,
Scotland on 21.10.1906 late of Glen Albyn and left 11K in personal estate. After John's death Anne
moved with her sister in law Hannah to 3 Cowper Villas. Anne died 14.11.1943 aged 96 at Cowper
Road.
1 John Samuel Wilkinson eldest son born 05.05.1871 married Evelyn Doris Warner born
circa 1884, eldest daughter of William Cyrus Warner a Civil Servant on 07.01.1911 at
Christ Church, Rathgar, County Dublin. John was an auctioneer and a livestock dealer
with premises at 40/41 Prussia Street. They were members of the Stillorgan and Foxrock
Horticultural society. John died on 29.06.1946 at Glenalbyn aged 75 years and Evelyn died
on 12.01.1973 aged 89 years. The Park Shopping Centre built on the site is still run by the
Wilkinson family.

Leeson 2nd daughter of Thomas H Leeson of Lea Road, Sandymount at Merrion
Hall Dublin on 09.07.1948.
2 William Donald Wilkinson born 10.07.1915 at Glen Albyn married Ethel May Emery,
daughter of Mr and Mrs W T Emery of Walsall at Mellish Road Church Walsall on
16.08.1941.
3 Louisa May Wilkinson elder daughter born 21.03.1917 married Rev Edward
V Cornelius Watson youngest son of George V Watson of Brighton Vale, Monkstown
on 24.09.1941 at St Brigid’s Church, Stillorgan.
4 James Lovell Wilkinson born 2 Nov 1919 at Glenalbyn. He was a medical doctor and
assistant medical director of the Blood Transfusion Association at Pelican House in
the 1950's. He resigned the service after the HIV contaminated blood scandal in
1985.
5 Doris Anne Wilkinson born at Glen Albyn married Ralph Alan Meyer of
Rathmines at St Brigid’s Church, Stillorgan. Ralph died 30.04.1967 at Kilternan.
2 Eva Wilkinson born 14.12.1872 at 3 Royal Terrace, North Circular Road died an infant.
3 Emily Wilkinson born 22.12.1873 at 3 Royal Terrace, North Circular Road married David
Turner MD son of Samuel Turner of Grosvenor Road, Rathgar on 14.04.1910 at St Brigid’s
Church, Stillorgan. Emily and David lived at Grosvenor Road, Rathgar.
4 James Wilkinson born 26.12.1875 at Cherrymount, North Circular Road became a member
of the Stock exchange and a partner in the firm of Messrs Low & Wilkinson of Foster Place.
James married Anne Eleanor Franks 6 Jun 1914 at St Paul's Glenageary. Anne was the
daughter John Hamilton Franks. James died 9 Dec 1941 and Anne died at Gleneder,
Howth on 9 Jul 1960.
