John Tubbert (a twin) was born 5 Dec 1870 at Balloughton in Co son of Thomas Tubbert,
a labourer/coachman/horse trainer and his wife (Anastatia) Anty Keane who were living at
Murrintown, Wexford in 1901. He married Margaret Doyle on 5 Nov 1893 at Little Bray
Chapel. John was a gardener resident in Shankill. Margaret also from Wexford was the
daughter of John Doyle, a station master. They lived at The Priory from 1898 to 1920 until
the death of his employer Harry Dudgeon. John won a number of prizes awarded by the
RHS. By 1911 they had 10 children of whom 9 survived. They were living at the Chalet,
Sandyford by 1935. John was a member of the Irish Gardeners Association and was
elected chairman in 1936 and later president. Margaret died 18 Feb 1943 at The Chalet
and John died at Grangegorman Hospital, late of The Chalet, Sandford 11 Dec 1951. Both
are buried at Deansgrange.
1 Mary Tubbert born 1 Jun 1894 at Askgrove, Monkstown was resident at the Priory
Stillorgan and married James Synnott at Booterstown RC Church on 17 Jul 1918.
James was a tailor of 5 Georges Avenue, Blackrock and the son of Thomas Synnott,
a tailor. James died 1 Sep 1940 at Roseville Terrace, Newtownpark and was buried
at Deansgrange. Mary died at Roseville, Newtownpark on 18 Jan 1961 and was
buried with her husband.
1 John Desmond Synnott born 8 January 1921 at 62 Carysfort Avenue.
2 Anastatia Tubbert born 1 Aug 1895 as Ashgrove, Kill Avenue. Anastatia of Priory
married Denis Reginald (Reggie) Burke on 12 Aug 1919 at the Church of the
Assumption, Booterstown. Denis was a commercial traveller of 11 Rock Road
and the son of John Burke, a clerk and his wife Catherine Flynn. Denis died
16 Nov 1966 at Bootersown Avenue. Anastatia died 21 Sep 1971 at Hazel Avenue
the home of her daughter, late of Booterstown Avenue.
1 Margaret Joan Burke born 17 Jun 1920 at 1 Cross Avenue.
3 John Thomas Tubbert born 26 Jan 1897 at Kill Avenue, Co Dublin enlisted with
The Duke of Cambridge's Own in 1914. He married Helen M Walls in 1917 and
was living in Tamworth in 1939. He died in England in 1969.
4 Margaret Maud Tubbert born 19 Aug 1898 at The Priory, Stillorgan. Margaret of 62
Carysfort Avenue married Alfred Burns on 24 Aug 1921 at Booterstown RC Church.
Alfred was a motor mechanic of Seafort Parade and the son of Arthur Burns.
Margaret died 23 Feb 1944 at St Michaels Dun Laogjiare, late of Rosemount Terrace
and Alfred died 25 Jun 1954 at Sir Patrick Dun’s Hospital late or 4 Rosemount
Terrace. Both are buried at Deansgrange.
5 Thomas Joseph Tubbert 28 May 1900 at Priory Gate baptised at Booterstown in
1900.
6 Annie Tubbert born 26 Aug 1901 at The Priory, Stillorgan was baptised at
Booterstown. Annie of Rosemount Terrace married Thomas O’Connor on
9 Feb 1925 at Booterstown RC Church. Thomas died 2 Feb 1937 and was buried
at Deansgrange. Annie died in 1982 at St Fintan’s Villas, Deansgrange and was
buried with her husband.
7 Ellen Evelyn Tubbert born 26 Nov 1903 at Stillorgan married Reginald Thomas
Sinnott 11 Jul 1928. Ellen was resident at Rose Ville Terrace, Newtown Park.
Reggie a compositor was resident at Kilmainham and the son of James Sinnott.
They lived at Hazeldene, Newtownpark. Evelyn died 15 Nov 1938 and was buried
at Deansgrange. Reggie died 3 Dec 1966 aged 71 at Hazeldene and was buried
with his wife.
8 Kathleen Hester Tubbert born 21 Apr 1905 at Stillorgan married Denis Walsh of
Newtown Park on 3 Oct 1935 at Sandyford Church. Denis was the son of John
Walsh. Kathleen died at Loughlinstown Hospital late of the Chalet on 15 Dec 1951.
Denis was a carpenter and died 8 Jan 1968 at The Chalet Sandyford. Both are
buried at Deansgrange.
9 Nicholas Tubbert born 20 Feb 1907 at Stillorgan. He married Rosalie Biddulph
on 18 Jun 1945 at Rathmines Church. Rosalie was the daughter of William
Biddulph. Nicholas worked for J J O Hara & Co and later for Denis, King & Co,
Ironmongers of Leinster Street. He died at St Fintans Sandyford on 3 Feb 1964
and was buried at Deansgrange.
10 Maurice Joseph Tubbert born 3 May 1908 at Stillorgan was living at Carmenhall
Cottages in Leopardstown in 1932. He married Mary Anne Walsh on 30 Jun 1942
at St Mary’s Haddington Road. Mary was the daughter of Patrick Walsh a farmer
and was resident at Lansdowne Road. Maurice worked for the Post office from 1922.
He was ‘a galloper’ delivering telegrams around the city, later a postman and later a
post office sorter. He played the piano accordion and formed a post office band
which played at ballroom functions. He retired from the Post Office in 1973.
11 James Joseph Tubbert born 19 Apr 1913 at The Priory Stillorgan baptised at
Booterstown. He married and lived at Ard Lorcain Stillorgan. He died 27 Mar 1979
and was buried at Deansgrange.
12 Elizabeth Josephine (Lily) Tubbert born at Holles Street Hospital on 12 June 1915
married Michael Joseph Wilson on 20 Sep 1943 at Sandyford Church. Michael of
Newtown Park was the son of James Wilson, a caretaker. He was a clicker and worked
at Rathfarnham Golf Club. He died in 1974.
