1 Edward Traynor was born at Ballyprecas, Newtownbarry (now Bunclody), Co Wexford on
15 Mar 1869. Edward enlisted in the British Army and in 1891 he was a gunner in the Royal
Garrison Artillery stationed at Fort Grange, Hampshire. He married Edith Ellen Porter daughter
of Harriette Tuersley on 11 Nov 1893 at St Peter the Apostle Church in Woolwich. He was still a
gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery in 1901 and was stationed at Dover Castle in Kent.
Edward was discharged from the army on completion of two terms of engagement in 1910
listing his ‘intended place of residence’ to be that of his brother William’ - The Lodge, St John of
God Hospital Stillorgan. His discharge report stated that his conduct and character were
exemplary and was suitable for employment as a groom or as an officer's servant. In 1911
Edward and his family were living at 8 Dublin Road, Stillorgan and Edward was employed as a
night watchman at St John of God Hospital. Edward was still a night watchman in 1935 but by
1937 was a post office worker. Despite having served in the British Army, Edward and his eldest
son John were rounded up with all the male residents of Stillorgan for interrogation in the
Stillorgan raid of 1921. Edith died on 21 Mar 1935 at 8 Dublin Road and Edward died at
Monkstown Hospital, late of 8 Dublin Road on 7 Mar 1941. Both are buried in Deansgrange
Cemetery.
1 Bridget Ellen Traynor born December 1894 at Woolwich. Bridget was a nurse and died a
spinster on 16 Apr 1945 at Monkstown Hospital and was buried in Deansgrange Cemetery.
2 William Ernest Traynor born 1 Oct 1896 at Woolwich. William enlisted in the British Army in
1916 and was a gunner with the Royal Garrison Artillery, he saw active service during WW1.
William was injured on 14 Sep 1918 and taken to a Canadian Casualty Station. He was
transferred to a Field Hospital the following day. He was awarded the Allied Victory Medal
and the British War Medal in 1919. He married Elizabeth Winstanley at Halifax in 1920 and
re-engaged with the army in 1926. He received his discharge papers having attained the
rank of Regimental Sergeant Major in 1939. William died at Bournemouth, Dorset in 1977.
3 Edith Elizabeth Traynor born March 1898 at Lewisham in Kent. Edith married Arthur
Sheridan of Whitechurch, Rathfarnham at Kilmacud Church on 26 Dec 1926 and died a
widow, on 7 Mar 1963 at the Iveagh Buildings, Bride Street.
4 Annie Harriet Traynor born September 1900 at Dover. Annie married Hubert Thomas Maguire
from Neilstown, Stillorgan at Kilmacud Church on 7 Jun 1933. Hubert was the son of Daniel
Maguire, a shopkeeper. Annie died late of Mulvey Park at St Vincent’s Hospital on 27 Aug 1970.
5 Edward Patrick Traynor was born 2 Sep 1902 at Dover in Kent. He died an infant in 1903
at Newcastle.
6 John Thomas Traynor (Jack) born 2 Sep 1904 at Tynemouth in Northumberland. He was a
sales man and married Anne Murphy on 26 Nov 1934 at Kilmacud Church. Anne died at Holles
Street Hospital on 27 Apr 1937, late of 12 Dublin Road. John was a green grocer when he
secondly married Catherine Mary Murphy 25 Sep 1944 at St Therese’s Church in Mount
Merrion. John served as a squad leader of the Local Security Force (LSF) during 'The Emergency'.
7 Martin James Traynor born 1906 at Newport in Wales. He was chauffeur to the Dacus family
who owned Gateaux Cakes. Martin married Anne Browne, at Holycross Church, Dundrum on
28 Apr 1941. Anne (Nan) was a laundry worker living at Goatstown and the daughter of William
Browne, a laundry worker. Martin died 12 May 1972 at Ard Lorcain and was buried in
Deansgrange Cemetery.
8 Patrick Joseph Traynor born 19 Mar 1910 at Devon. He was a post office storeman and married
Kathleen Burke at Foxrock Church on 18 May 1942. Kathleen was a domestic servant living
at Kerrymount Avenue and the daughter of Thomas Burke. Patrick died at Avonmore Lodge,
White Cross on 22 Dec 1967 and was buried in Deansgrange Cemetery.
9 Michael Clement Traynor born 11 May 1912 at Stillorgan. Michael was a labourer and married
Kathleen Atkins at Rathgar RC Church on 26 Sep 1937. The family lived at Rory O'Connor Park,
Dun Laoghaire.
10 Edward Aiden (Ned) Traynor born 21 Jan 1915 at Stillorgan. Edward was a bus conductor and
married Elizabeth Mary Kearney at St Michael’s Church, Inchicore on 5 Sep 1938. Elizabeth was a
minor and daughter of Will Kearney, a bus driver. They lived at St Fintan's Park, Deansgrange.
2 William Traynor born circa 1885, lived at the gatelodge of St John of God from 1901 to 1953.
3 J Traynor attended his nephew John's funeral in Stillorgan in 1939.
