Rev Annesley Strean married Catherine Holmes daughter of John Holmes. Annesley was a
medical doctor, he took Holy orders and was the incumbent of St Peter's Athlone. He was
a member of the short lived Athlone Brunswick Constitutional Club. He put forward that
Oliver Goldsmith was not born at Pallas in Longford but at Smith Hill (Ard na NGabha) in
Athlone, a theory that is still hotly debated. There is a memorial to the Strean Family in St
Brigid’s Graveyard, Stillorgan.
1 Rev John Streane eldest son born circa 1803 Roscommon married Mary Cage youngest
daughter of William Cage late of her Majesty’s Customs on 19.06.1838 at Kirk Bradden
Church, Isle of Man. Mary died circa 11.08.1853 aged 40 years. John,a widower died on
22.03.1879 aged 75 years at 4 Sydenham Road, Dundrum.
1 Catherine Henrietta Strean born at Great Charles’ Street, Mountjoy square in July
1839 died 23.06.1861.
2 Anna Mary Strean born 09.07.1839 died 16.08.1866 aged 27 years at Dundrum
3 Annesley William Strean only son born 15.11.1841 at Killuken Glebe, Roscommon died
30.06.1862 aged 20 years at Sydenham Road, Dundrum.
2 Catherine Strean born 1808 died 08.06.1835 aged 27 years at Blackrock.
3 Annesley William (William) Strean 2nd son born circa 1814 Roscommon died on 22.07.1834
aged 21 years at Fairy Hill, Blackrock.
4 Venerable Lewis Henry Streane born circa 1815 in Roscommon educated at Trinity College, Dublin.
Lewis married Emily Meade daughter of Christopher Henry Barry Meade and Anne Fulton on
07.02.1843 at St George’s Church, Dublin. He was Archdeacon of Glendalough an Rector of
Delgany for 28 years. Lewis died on 17.05.1890 late of 3 Winton Road, Dublin. Emily died
27.12.1892 aged 82 years at 37 Eccles Street, Dublin.
1 Annesley William Streane born 08.04.1844 married Emily Muriel Knyvett Lloyd youngest
daughter of Guy Lloyd DL of Collegnes, Blackrock and Croghan, Roscommon on
03.01.1884 at St Philip and St James Church, Booterstown. Annesley Streane of Corpus
Christi College, Cambridge died on 10.09.1915 aged 70 years in London.
5 Jane Strean eldest surviving daughter died on 02.01.1850 at Barnton Parsonage.
6 Emilia Margaret Letitia Streane youngest daughter born circa 1817 Athlone married Rev Edward
William Burton, Curate of St Paul’s, Manchester only son of Major Burton of Williamstown, Dublin
on 28.10.1841 at Easternsnow Church, Boyle.
1 Charles Edward Burton born 1847 Cheshire.
2 William Fra Burton born 1849 Cheshire.
3 Catherine J Burton born 1852 Cheshire.
