Hugh Beresford Stanley born circa 1803 in Dublin son of John Stanley, a merchant of Eccles
Street and Hannah Blackwood. Hugh was educated at Mr Gwynne’s School and graduated
Trinity College. He was a solicitor and admitted Kings Inns in 1824. He was resident at
Margaret Place, Co Dublin and married Anna Roper on Feb 1836 at St George’s, Dublin. Anna
was the eldest daughter of Edward Roper of Eccles Street and Hazel Brook, Co Roscommon.
They lived at Blessington Street and later moved to 74 Harcourt Street. His father died in
1839 aged 71 and his mother died in 1864 aged 93 at Harcourt Street. Anna died
16 Nov 1867 at Llandudno Wales.
1 Daughter Stanley born at Eccles Street in January 1837 who survived only 2 hours.
2 John Stanley born 13 Mar 1839 at Blessington Street.
3 Edward Alexander Stanley youngest son born 17 Jul 1842 at Adelaide Road was
educated at Worchester. He was admitted Kings Inns in 1858 and called to the Irish
Bar in 1863. He suffered from heart disease and died a bachelor on 30.1.1864 at
Harcourt Street. His father was his only next of kin.
4 Letitia Leonora Stanley only daughter born 31 May 1845 at Blessington Street
married William Burroughs Stanley on 17.12.1868 at Stillorgan Church. William was
a solicitor and the second son of Rev Robert Henry Stanley, Rector of Edermine and
his wife Charlotte Maria Burroughs. They lived at Coolamber Manor in Longford and
William was land agent for the Foulkscourt Estate. Letitia died at Coolamber, Co
Longford on 20 Sep 1899.
1 Robert Hugh Beresford Stanley born 04.11.1869 at Lonsdale and died
19.01.1871 aged 14 months at same place and is buried at Mount Jerome.
2 Hugh Henry Granville Stanley born 16.06.1872 at Lonsdale baptised at
Stillorgan Parish Church. Hugh died of Meningitis on 17.01.1883 aged 10
years at 23 Lower Fitzwilliam Street and is buried at Mount Jerome.
3 Henry Childers Stanley born 18.09.1875 at 24 Longford Terrace of 23 Lower
Fitzwilliam Street. He served during WW1 and attained the rank of captain
with the Royal Irish Regiment. Henry died unmarried on 02.07.1932 aged
54 years at 28 Upper Merrion Street late of Coolamber, Lisygrane,
Westmeath. He left 8K in persona estate.
William secondly married Maud Margaret Tyndall on 15 Mar 1912 at St Peter’s Dublin.
Maud was a widow of John Sharp Dawson and the daughter of Robert Tyndall.
William died in Killiney on 8 Feb 1922 and was buried at Mount Jerome. He left 40K
in personal estate. Maud moved to Lilybrook, Burleigh Salterton.
4 Juliet Constance (Julie) Stanley born circa 1914 married Anthony Desmond
Rex Wingfield on 16 May 1935 at St Paul's Knightsbridge. Anthony was with
the 10th Royal Hussars. He was the son of Col Maurice Wingfield and the
nephew of Viscount Powerscourt.
5 Hannahbella Stanley born 8 Dec 1847 at Blessington Street died 16 Oct 1850 at
Blessington Street.
Hugh secondly married Anna Maria Brooks of Monkstown at Stillorgan Parish Church on
22 Apr 1869. Anna Maria was the widow of William Deey of Clondalkin, and the daughter
of James Brooks. His son in law William Burroughs Staney was one of the witnesses and
his daughter’s father-in-law Rev Robert H Stanley the Rector of Edermine officiated. Anna
Maria died 30.09.1884 aged 83 at 24 Longford Terrace and Hugh died on 26.05.1887 at
24 Longford Terrace. Both were buried at Mount Jerome.
