Richard Summers of Tyrrellspass married Sarah Anne Fouace, daughter of Thomas Fouace
and Sarah Moore circa 1795. A weaver and linen merchant, he leased a house and gardens
at Tyrrellspass in 1809. He later became a land agent and treasurer to the Turnpike commission
for the area, issuing tenders for the upkeep of the road and managing bidding for the gates and
it was during his tenure that a stone was placed at Beggars bridge to rename it Rochfort bridge.
He was on the board of Mullingar Union and in 1839, he was a trustee of a legacy by Countess Jane
of Belvedere to improve Tyrrellstown school. Sarah Anne died 18 Aug 1843 at Tyrrellspass aged
74. Richards Will was proved in 1848.
1 Thomas Somers born circa 1800, a grocer and country shop keeper of Tyrrellspass House,
was an agent for John Cassels Coffee and Chauline’s Wines. He was also the toll collector for
the village fair. He married Anne Armstrong of Clones, County Limerick on 21 Apr 1823 at
Clones. He put the business premises with 17 acres up for sale in 1855 and was living at
Streamstown house with his son Richard in 1864. From 1874 to 1880 he lived at Kelston,
Stillorgan and died at Eversham, Stillorgan, the home of his daughter on 9 Dec 1882 aged 82.
1 Anna Maria Somers, only daughter born circa 1824 married John Beatty, a widower
from Fermanagh, living at Kenilworth square, the son of William Beatty at
Ardnurcher Church Mullingar on 10 Mar 1864. Anna died at 4 Sydenham Villas,
Bray on 18 Nov 1894 aged 70. John was living with his son on Sorento road in 1901
and died 13 Nov 1902 at St Helier's, Dalkey.
1 Lewis Handy Somers Beatty born 24 Oct 1868 at Eaton Square, Seapoint was
living at in Sorrento Road in 1901. He married Elizabeth Francis Rogers from
Devon at Brentford in 1903. He was a furniture merchant. The family were
living at Arkendale Road, Kingstown in 1911.

2 Richard Somers born circa 1829 at Tyrrellspass bought Streamstown House in 1855
for 4.5K. He married Mary Roe, daughter of Thomas Roe of Coolfin, Queens County at
Aughmacart Church Abbeyleix on 7 Aug 1866. Mary died 26 Jul 1877 and was buried
at Newtown graveyard. Richard secondly married Adelaide Charlotte Drought of
Molesworth Street and daughter of Robert S Drought at St Anne’s Church, Dublin on
13 Jul 1881. Richard died at Streamstown House on 18 Jan 1890 aged 61. Adelaide
remained at Streamstown with her stepdaughter Annie and died at Streamstown on
18 Apr 1911 aged 73.
1 Elizabeth Florence (Florrie) Somers, eldest daughter born 9 Mar 1868 at
Streamstown House died 7 Oct 1883 aged 15 at Streamstown House, Mullingar and
was buried at Newtown.
2 Thomas Armstrong Somers born 14 Apr 1869 at Streamstown House died
14 Feb 1882 from measles at Corrig House, Kingstown.
3 Annie Mary Somers born 19 Mar 1871 at Streamstown House only surviving daughter
married Richard Westropp Roe youngest son of the late surgeon Major Peter Henry
Roe of Coolfin, Queens County and Mrs Roe of Norwood on 7 Jul 1907 at Ardnurcher
Church. The family were living at Streamstown House in 1911.
1 Richard Henry Somers Roe born 1 Nov 1908 at The Rotunda Hospital
attended Columbus College, Dublin. He married Aileen Florence Pennefather,
a nurse from Melbourne, Australia at London on 29 Nov 1939.
2 John Richard Somers born circa 1814 married Maria Jane Handy (a widow, with children) in 1836.
Maria was the 6th daughter of Samuel Handy of Bracca Castle, County Westmeath. John was a JP
and they lived at Tyrrellspass House and Friarsland in Clonskeagh. John died from Anthrax at 41
Wellington Road aged 81 on 4 Oct 1894. Maria late of 41 Wellington Road died at Tyrrellspass
House on 16 Jan 1897 aged 79.
1 Richard John Somers born circa 1838 joined the 11th Hussars and married Jane
Wilhelmina Marsh, daughter of Rev Peter Marsh of Ballinaminton on 11 Oct 1870 at Clara
Church, Tullamore. Richard died 14 Dec 1881 at Southsea.
2 Samuel Handy Somers, second son married Mary Anna Jeffcott, daughter of Rev William
Jeffcott, of Castleblaney Rectory, Galway, on 24 Jun 1862 at St Anne’s Church, Dublin. In
1883 he gave up farming and put his four farms of approx. 400 acres up for sale but
retained Tyrrellspass House.
