Garett Smith married Martha. He was a provisions dealer and the family lived in a cottage at Stillorgan
South, close to Stillorgan Church by 1835. Gareth died in 1869 and Martha died 5 Jan 1880 at Stillorgan
and was buried at Stillorgan Graveyard.
1 Elizabeth (Bessie) Smith eldest daughter married Robert Glynn born circa 1834, youngest son
of Arthur Glynn, a farmer of Westmeath, at St Peters Church Dublin on 9 May 1854. Robert was
a steward living at 31 Upper Pembroke Street and Bessie was living at Waterloo Road. Robert
died at Street on 29 Jul 1889.
1 Martha Glynn born in Street Co Westmeath circa 1860. Martha worked at the post office
in Stillorgan for her aunts; Sarah and Marianne Smith. She took over as post mistress in
1922 and died 15 Dec 1923 at Stillorgan and was buried at St Brigid's.
2 John James Glynn born Westmeath circa 1863 at Westmeath married Jane Anne Lacky in
Manhattan NY on 5 Jul 1902. The lived at Edgesworthtown before moving to Bray and
then to Stillorgan. They were in Stillorgan by 1923 and John worked as a gardener and Jane
was the post mistress in Stillorgan taking over from Martha Glynn in 1924. Jane was born
in Longford on 18 Aug 1875 to William Lakey and Margaret Abbott. John James died
1 Oct 1933 and was buried at St Brigid’s Stillorgan. Jane resigned her position as post
mistress in 1935 when her daughter married. She died on 22 May 1954 and was buried at
St Brigid's with her husband.
1 Elizabeth Glynn born 8 May 1903 at Edgeworthstown married Martin Henry Burnes
from Bray, son of Martin Burns, a painter at St Brigid’s Church Stillorgan on
12 Jan 1927.
2 William Glynn born 22 Jan 1905 at Edgeworthstown worked at The Grange for
Dean Lewis-Crosby. He married Anne Elizabeth (Lily) Porter on 15 May 1946 at All
Saints, Blackrock. Lily was the daughter of Matthew Porter, a farmer. William was
later a van driver and died on 27 Nov 1965 at 12 The Hill, Stillorgan and was buried
at St Brigid’s Stillorgan.
3 Sarah Jane Glynn born 14 Jan 1906 married Albert Edward Gregory, a mechanic
from Rathfarnham and son of William Gregory, a butcher, at St Brigid's Church on
9 Sep 1935. She was assistant post mistress at Stillorgan but gave up the
position when she married. Both were buried at St Brigid’s.
4 Violet Glynn born circa 1909 at County Longford.
5 John Glynn born 7 July 1910 at Elgeworthstown.
3 Son Glynn born 24 Mar 1867 at Street, Co Longford.
4 George Glynn born circa 1871 at Street, Co Longford.
5 Andrew Glynn born circa 1873 at Street, Co Longford.
2 John Smith born circa 1841 was living at the post office in Stillorgan in 1884. He was assistant post
master and died a bachelor on 23 Oct 1900 at the post office, Stillorgan and was buried at St Brigids.
3 Sarah Smith circa 1846 at Stillorgan was a dress maker. She was the Post Mistress of Stillorgan from
1882 until her death. She died 17 Nov 1915 and was buried at Stillorgan graveyard. No Headstone.
4 Marianne Smith born circa 1852 at Stillorgan was the assistant Post Mistress of Stillorgan and Post
Mistress on the death of her sister in 1915. She died 19 Feb 1922 and was buried at Stillorgan
Graveyard. No Headstone.
