William Rothery born circa 1829. He was possibly the son of James Rothery and Maria
O’Brien, both from Ticknock who were married in Sandyford in 1825. Maria’s father
was a substantial farmer in Ticknock and he didn’t see James as a suitable son in law
so refused permission to the marriage.
1 John Rothery born circa 1848 in Co Dublin. He was a farmer from Ticknock,
Glencullen and married Isabella Malone at Sandyford Church on 19 Oct 1874.
Isabella was the daughter of Michael Malone, a stone mason of Woodside and
his wife Catherine Byrne. They lived at Barnaculia, Glencullen and John worked
as a carter, labourer and farmer. John died 10 Oct 1905 at Woodside. Isabella
died 21 Apr 1935 at Woodside and was buried at Kilgobbin.
1 Anne (Annie) Rothery born 28 Aug 1875 at Balawley worked as a servant at
3 Somerville Terrace in Booterstown. She married Patrick Robinson at
Booterstown Church on 24 June 1896. Patrick was resident at Woodside
and the son of Patrick Robinson, a shoemaker. By 1901 Patrick was a
land steward living at Deansgrange and they had three children.
2 Mary Rothery born 30 May 1877 at Ticknock died 8 Apr 1884 at Barnaculia.
3 Catherine (Kate/Katie) Rothery born 18 Mar 1879 at Barnacullia married
Bernard Merriman on 15 Nov 1897 at Sandyford Church. Bernard was a
labourer living at Deansgrange and the son of John Merriman, a land
steward. They were living at Cornelscourt in 1911 having had six children.
4 Margaret (Maggie) Rothery born 2 May 1882 in Co Dublin, baptised in
Sandyford was a lace worker in 1911. She joined the Irish National Foresters
in 1912 (Foxrock branch - Geraldines). She married John Hayden at
Sandyford Church on 18 Nov 1917. John was living at Sandford and was the
son of Mike Hayden.

5 Isabella Rothery born 22 Jun 1885 at Woodside, Glencullen married John
Flood on 8 Aug 1906 at Sandyford Church. John was living at Barnaculia
and the son of John Flood, a labourer. They lived at Kill Lane in 1911 and
had no children.
6 Mary Rothery born 26 Apr 1887 at Barnaculia baptised at Sandyford married
Daniel Byrne at Sandyford on 15 Aug 1910. Daniel was living at Sallynoggin
and the son of John Byrne, a labourer.

8 Michael Rothery born 25 May 1893 at Woodside, Glencullen was a postman
in 1911 and a motor dealer in 1935. He married Margaret Mary (Madeline)
Byrne on 3 Sep 1935 at Kilmacud Church. Margaret was living at Glenalbyn
and the daughter of John Byrne, a dairyman. In the 1930's Rothery Bros
were haulage contractors and motor dealers and later had petrol pumps at
their premises on the Dublin Road, Stillorgan. In 1932 the were offering a
1928 Singer Junior for Sale (similar to the above photo). In the 1940's they
had a sandpit near Enniskerry with 11 sand pit workers and five lorry drivers.
Michael, a retired cycle repairer died 30 Aug 1869 at St Columcille’s Hospital
late of Woodside and was buried with his mother at Kilgobbin. He is
remembered fondly in Stillorgan for his kindness in repairing children’s bikes
for nothing and offering hours of work to teenagers in need of money.
Madeline died on 18 May 1971 at was buried at Deansgrange.
9 Thomas Rothery born 16 Sep 1895 at Woodside, Glencullen was a telegraph
messenger in 1911. Thomas a motor engineer married Mary Theresa
Gaffney on 5 Jul 1926 at Holy Cross Church, Dundrum. Mary was a laundry
washer living at Windy Arbour and the daughter of Edward Gaffney, a
gardener. During 'The Emergency' Thomas was in command of the Stepaside
Local Defence Force. Thomas a retired garage owner died 2 Mar 1961 at
Hume Street Hospital, late of Woodside, Sandyford. He was buried at
Deansgrange.
10 Bridget Rothery born and died 16 Jul 1901 at Woodside, Glencullen.
2 Thomas Rothery born circa 1849 married Bridget Brennan at Rathfarnham
Church on 21 Jan 1889. He was a farmer from Ticknock. Bridget was living at
Harold’s Grange and was the daughter of Michael Brennnan, a stone cutter.
Thomas died at Ticknock on 16 Jun 1896. His niece Kate from Woodside the
informant.

died 18 Jan 1974 at Hillcott, Ticknock and was buried with her husband and
son.
1 Dominic Reynolds born 1 July 1920 at Hillcott Cottage, Ticknock was a
clerk. He died on 21 Aug 1943 at St Vincent's Hospital and was buried
at Kilgobbin. His brother J Reynolds the informant.
