Bernard Rogan born circa 1872 at Hillsboro in Co Down son of James Rogan, a grocer and
Ann McKeown. He married Josephine Anna O’Farrell on 12 Apr 1899. He was a grocer
living at Irwin Street, Dublin. Josephine was living at Ballycorus and the daughter of
Andrew O’Farrell, a national school teacher. Bernard was a grocer publican of Knocklyon
in 1901. Bernard a licensed grocer and provision merchant was living with his family at
Windy Arbour by 1905. He had two shop assistants, and a messenger working for him,
living on the premises. He was later a member of the Rathdown No 1 Rural district council.
Josephine died 23 Aug 1934 at 65 Sandford Road and was buried at Deansgrange. On his
retirement in 1941 the licenses premises was purchased by J J O’Neill, publican of Aungier
Street. Bernard died 14 Dec 1941 at Rockville the home of his son Patrick. His funeral mass
was held at Holy Cross Church, Dundrum and his was buried with his wife.
1 Anna Pauline (Dolly) Rogan born 15 Feb 1900 at Ballycorus living at 65 Sandford Road,
Ranelagh in 1941. Dolly was a nurse and died unmarried on 16 Nov 1942 at 58 St
Stephen’s Green, late of 65 Sandford Road. She was buried with her parents.
2 Patrick Aloysius Rogan 19 Jul 1901 at Fir House. He was educated at St Mary’s
Rathmines and the Veterinary College, Ballsbridge. He joined the Department of
Agriculture in 1929 as a supervisory veterinary and lived at 65 Sandford Road from
1934 to 1936. He married Margaret Mary McGahan at St Michael’s Church, Dun
Laoghaire on 28 Jul 1836. Mary was resident at Castleblaney and the daughter of
Patrick McGahan, a draper. They lived at Rockville, Dundrum from 1940 to 1942. He
was director of Veterinary services at the Department of Agriculture from 1948 to 1959
and introduced a checking system on meat for export. The AI, and TB eradication
scheme fell under his remit. He was the national representative on the International
Veterinary Bureau and the European Commission for the control of foot and mouth
disease. He died 13 Jun 1959 at Knockeevin, Church Road, Greystones and was buried
at Redford cemetery in Greystones.
3 Mary Josephine (Maimie) Rogan born 29 Oct 1903 in Firhouse. She was a chemist living
at Windy Arbour and married Brian Drum on 24 Jan 1932 at Bray Church. Brian was a
bank official living at 15 Frascati Park, Blackrock and the son of Matthew Drum, a retired
civil servant. Mamie died on 17 Dec 1954 at the Mater Hospital, late of Terenure and
her funeral mass was held at Mount Argus. She was buried at Deansgrange.
4 Patricia Mary Rogan born 26 March 1907 at Windy Arbour married James Moran on
6 Nov 1932 at St Andrew’s Church, Dublin. James was a chemist from New Ross and the
son of David Moran, a shop keeper.
5 Ellen Josephine Rogan born 24 March 1909 at Windy Arbour.
6 Catherine Mary Rogan born 10 Jun 1910 at Windy Arbour was a medical doctor. She
married Louis Finnegan on 7 Sep 1938 at Cabinteely Church. Louis was a medical doctor
living at Greystones and the son of Thomas Finnegan, a farmer. He was the medical
officer to Delgany dispensary. They lived at Fortrose, Greystones and they had two
daughters. Louis died 5 Nov 1951 and was buried at Redford cemetery Greystones. Kitty
died on 23 Feb 1973 and was buried with her husband.
7 Clare Mary Rogan born 27 Nov 1912 at Windy Arbour a witness at her sister’s wedding in
1932. She was a medical doctor and worked in India.
