Raymond William French only son born 11 May 1867 at Tontine, Castleconnell, Limerick son
of the Venerable Thomas Fitzgerald French, a clerk in Holy orders and Harriet Selina Molony.
He was admitted solicitor of the Supreme Court of Judicature in January 1896 having served
his apprenticeship with Weldon Charles Moloney of 28 South Frederick Street. He married
Sophia Rebecca Wolfe on 19 February 1903 at Christ Church. Sophia had a daughter; Louise
Susan and was the widow of Francis Richard Wolfe a solicitor of Burlington Road. She was
the daughter of Arthur MacMurrough Murphy the O’Murchoe and Susan Elizabeth Bradley.
Raymond had offices at 39 Fleet Street before moving to 32 Nassau Street in 1913. They
were both keen golfers and together they won many competitions and entertained their
competitors frequently. Raymond died 9 Mar 1937 at Northbrook Road and was buried at
Deansgrange. Sophie died 28 Nov 1950 at Dartmouth Square late of 119 Ailesbury Road and
was buried with her husband.
1 Mary Dring French born 3 Aug 1905 at Danesfort on Ailesbury Road was engaged to
Duncan Allnott of the Indian Army Service Corps in 1925. She died unmarried and
was buried with her parents.
2 Sheila O’Morchoe French born 3 Nov 1907 at Danesfort, Ailesbury Road. She attended
boarding school in Bedfordshire. Sheila died unmarried at Herbert Street late of Raglan
Road in 12 Nov 1959 and was buried with her parents.
3 Raymond Arthur French born 7 Aug 1911 at Danesfort, Ailesbury Road. He was a
solicitor living at Manaton, Stillorgan Road and married Daphne May Wix on 2 Jan 1937
at Christ Church, Bray. Daphne was the daughter of Randolph Stonehewel Wix of
Crinken Cottage Shankill and Pembroke Lodge Bray and his wife Sylvia May D’Olier.
The reception was held at Wingfield, Bray the residence of Mrs Alice D’Olier,
grandmother of the bride and widow of Edmund Guy D’Olier. They lived at Knocksinna
from 1950 to 1962 and three of their daughter were married from here.
