Perry Family of Obelisk Park
Obelisk Park a large rambling house was built around 1790 for Richard Sinclair.
James and Henry Perry the Quaker businessmen originally from Mountmellick purchased Obelisk
Park in 1829. The Perry’s enlarged the house as the two families lived in two separate parts of
the house. The Perry brothers owned an iron foundry in Ringsend and also an Iron hardware in
Pill Lane.
James Perry together with the Pim family directors of the Dublin Kingstown Railway backed the
railway contractor William Dargan. James was also involved in other Railways - James Perry junior
and James Perry senior were partners in the Hibernia Mining Company in Germany together with the
Malcolmsons of Portlaw and William Thomas Mulvany. Obelisk Park was sold on the 22nd January 1923 to the
Hospitaller Order of St John of God for £4500 by Marcus Goodbody of Talbot Lodge.

2 Henry Perry born circa 1796 married Susanna Pike 1827.
3 William Perry born circa 1804 married Ann Dugdale 1833, secondly Emily Patience Monsarrat

James Perry born circa 1795 married firstly Hannah Woodcock daughter of Samuel and Hannah
Woodcock on 11.08.1819 at Enniscorthy. Hannah died 06.10.1844 and James married secondly
Isabella Pim born 16.09.1807 daughter of James Pim and Hilda Huldah Wakefield of Grange Lodge,
Queens County on 27.02.1850 at Friends Meeting House, Mountmellick. James died on 11.07.1858
and Isabella died in aged 82 in 1890.

Hannah Woodcock Perry born 16.05.1829 favourite daughter and heiress of James Perry and
Hannah Woodcock married Marcus Goodbody born 09.10.1910 the eldest of five sons of Robert
Goodbody and Margaret Pim on 13.12.1848 at Friend's Meeting House Dublin thus uniting two great
Quaker families. Hannah’s ivory silk wedding dress is on display at Collins Barracks.
Henry Perry born circa 1821 of Eccles Street married Susanna Pike eldest daughter of James M Pike
of Gardiners Row on 23.03.1827 at Friends Meeting House. They had 2 children. Henry Perry died
aged 52 in 1848.
1 Henrietta Perry only daughter born circa 1828 married Rev Frederick Howe Ringwood at St
Brigids Church, Stillorgan on 29.10.1849. They had 13 children. Henrietta died on 06.05.1876
and Frederick died on 29.06.1897. They lived in Tyrone.
2 James Perry only son born circa 1831 married Mary Louisa Alexander born circa 1832
daughter of Ed Alexander on 04.07.1861 at Monkstown. James Perry died aged 53 on
06.03.1884 and Mary Louisa Perry died aged 78 on 03.08.1909. They lived at Richmond
Villas, Monkstown and Deansgrange.
