Blackrock. He married Elizabeth Caldwell daughter of Thomas Caldwell and Eliza O’Neil of
Stillorgan at Booterstown Church on 26 Apr 1858. John was a labourer and Elizabeth worked as a
char woman and they lived in Stillorgan Village. John died 20 June 1904 at Stillorgan Village and
was buried at Deansgrange. They had ten children of whom eight survived until 1911. Elizabeth
died at 6 Stillorgan village on 25 Oct 1918 aged 80 and was buried at Deansgrange with her husband.

2 Catherine Pender born born 24 Aug 1861 baptised at Booterstown was a servant at Redesdale,
Kilmacud. She married George McDermott of Newtown Park, Blackrock, son of Patrick
McDermott at Booterstown Chapel on 15 June 1890. In 1911 they had eight children of whom
seven had survived. George was a mason and they lived at Kilmacud Road. Catherine died
3 Jun 1936 at 17 Kilmacud Road and was buried at Deansgrange. George died on 30 Jul 1945
aged 81 at 17 Kilmacud Road and was buried with his wife.

Francis, a retired shopkeeper died in 22 May 1949 aged 85 at 19 Kilmacud Road. Both were
buried at Deansgrange.
1 Mary Anne Pender born 18 Jan 1888 married Edward Winstanley, bottle blower of
Barrow Street and son of George Winstanley, bottle blower at Kilmacud Church on
25 Sep 1916.
2 *Francis (Frank) Pender born 13 Aug 1889 was a carter and joined the British Army in
1905 giving his age as 18. His service number was 7178257 and he was with the Leinster
Regiment. He attained the rank of sergeant and was discharged at his own request after
18 years of service and received a pension, which was sent to 20 Kilmacud Road.
Whilst based at Wellington Barracks (Griffith Barracks now Griffith College), he married
Margaret McDonald at Our lady of Refuge church in Rathmines on 7 Feb 1916.
Margaret was the daughter of Edward McDonald, a gardener and she was living at 147
Oxmantown Road, NCR at the time of her marriage.
3 Margaret (Maggie) Pender born 6 Nov 1897 was injured in an accident while on a milkcart
in Ballsbridge which her father was driving in 1912. She married Henry Kelly, a carter of
24 Sweetman’s Avenue, Blackrock and son of Martin Kelly, a labourer at Kilmacud Church
on 12 Feb 1934.
5 Elizabeth Pender born 29 Apr 1867 at Stillorgan married John Clarke, labourer and son of Peter
Clarke, stone cutter at Holy Cross, Dundrum on 24 May 1885. John died on 4 Jun 1889 at
Stillorgan and was buried at Deansgrange. Elizabeth secondly married John McCann a dairyman
from Blackrock and son of Hugh McCann at Holy Cross Church Dundrum on 29 May 1893.
John worked at a gardener and they lived at The Hill in Stillorgan. Lizzie died 8 Aug 1931 at The Hill,
Stillorgan and was buried at Deansgrange. John died 29 Dec 1939 at No 7 The Hill Stillorgan and
was buried with his wife.
