The Ormsby family of Beaumont
Charles Ormsby of Merrion Row, Dublin married Margaret Matilda Lindsay at Cork in 1799. Charles
was an attorney at law and died on 2 Mar 1818 at Merrion Row.
1 Arthur Ormsby eldest son born circa 1801 in Dublin attended by Mr Whites School and Trinity.
He was living at Mount Merrion Avenue when he married Louisa Marie Burge daughter of
Benjamin Burge of Upper Baggot Street on 2 Jul 1830. He was a Queen’s Proctor based at
Queen’s Inn's Chambers at 10 Henrietta street and living at Waltham terrace by 1836. He was
in partnership with Mr T Tilly and was the solicitor with carriage of sales for sites at Waltham
Terrace. He is also notes as the lessor for all the houses in Waltham Terrace in Griffiths
Valuation. He was generous in supporting local charity and relief funds. He died at Beaumont
on 15 Sep 1863 and Louisa died 27 Mar 1887, both were buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Louisa Ormsby, eldest daughter born circa 1831 married Edward Lindsay, barrister at law,
son of John Lindsay of Maryville, Cork and Lindville, Tipperary at Booterstown Church on
1 Jul 1857. They lived at Hilton Lodge, Waltham Terrace.
2 Arthur Ormsby eldest son born circa 1832 attended Trinity and was called to the bar in
1861.
3 Susanna Ormsby, second daughter born circa 1833 buried at Mount Jerome 9 Mar 1848
aged 15.
4 Charles Ormsby, second son born circa 1834 died 1 Dec 1843 aged 9 at Waltham
Terrace.
5 Son Ormsby born July 1839 at Waltham Terrace died before 1880.
6 Benjamin Ormsby born 4 Sep 1841 at Waltham Terrace, as third surviving son married
Frances Charlotte Madden, eldest daughter of John T Madden of Inch House, Dublin on
5 May 1866 at Monkstown Church. Benjamin was a wine merchant. He died as second
surviving son on 20 Apr 1880 at Beaumont House and was buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Margaret Ormsby born 11 Feb 1867 died 1869 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
2 Arthur Ormsby, only son born 19 Sep 1873 at Beaumont was a stockbroker living
at 39 Pembroke Road. He married Louisa Sophia Jane Jobson daughter of Robert
Jobson at Bartholomew's on 13 Aug 1901. Arthur died 10 Mar 1905 at Warwick
Terrace, Rathmines and was buried at Mount Jerome.
7 Thomas Ormsby born 22 Nov 1843 at Beaumont, Waltham Terrace. He was admitted
attorney to the Queen’s Bench in 1866. A solicitor he practiced for over 50 years. He
married Kate Oxley, youngest daughter of Richard Oxley of Windsor on 5 Apr 1877 at
Windsor. He had offices at 24 Dame Street before and then joined a partnership to
become Matheson, Ormsby Prentice. He was member of the Plymouth Brethren and
was involved in both their home and abroad missions. The last few years of his life he
was an invalid. He died in 8 Jan 1927 at Beaumont, Waltham Tce survived by his widow,
one son and two daughters. Kate died at Waltham Tce on 3 Apr 1933 aged 86.
1 Louisa Eileen Ormsby, eldest daughter born 12 Jan 1878 at 3 Waltham Terrace.
2 Arthur Richard Ormsby born 16 Feb 1880 at 3 Waltham Terrace was a chartered
accountant. He married Mary Louise Butterworth at Macclesfield in 1919. He
died at 'Windrush', Knocksinna Road, Foxrock on 18 Jan 1961.
3 Norah Kathleen Ormsby born 26 Mar 1884 at Beaumont married Robert
Matheson, son of Robert Matheson of Mount Merrion Avenue at the Assembly
Rooms on 1 Dec 1915.
8 Daughter born 23 Jun 1846 at Beaumont, Waltham Terrace.
2 Frances Ormsby eldest daughter married Robert Duffield Speedy eldest son of Captain Speedy
of the Royal Barracks at Booterstown Church 10 Feb 1830.
3 Elizabeth Ormsby, second daughter married Henry Benjamin Burge of Herbert Place on
4 Jul 1835 at St Anne’s Church.
4 Margaret Matilda Ormsby, third daughter was living at Herbert Place when she married William
Wily only son of John Wily of Cork at St Peters on 2 Jun 1835.
