Jonathan Lindsay, barrister of Maryville Blackrock and Ballinard Castle, Tipperary. He paid
the tithe charges for any of his tenantry who were Catholic. He was a collector of coins,
amulets and gold and a regular contributor to the Nunismatic Chronical. He was a member
of the Cork Couverien Society. An authority on coins, he published a 'View of Coinage of
Ireland' in 1839 which included information of the principal hoards found in Ireland. The
book was dedicated to his uncle Noblet Johnson Lindsay. He was disparaging of the amulet
collection of Redmond Anthony *of Piltown in comparison with his own.
1 Anna Maria Lindsay, only daughter born circa 1820 married John Parke Carleton of
Springville, Cork at St Michael’s Church, Blackrock, Cork on 6 Dec 1864.
2 Thomas Lindsay eldest son married Henrietta Agnes Somerville Mayler, daughter of
Paul Mayler of Chiplee at St Finn Barr’s on 31 Mar 1855.
3 John Lindsay, second son married Henrietta Lindsay, third daughter of Thomas Lindsay
of Lindville, Co Tipperary at Fethard Church on 22 Aug 1849.
4 Samuel Paul Lindsay, solicitor married Eleanor Catherine Roper, eldest daughter of the
late Charles Roper JP of Fairfield, Dublin and niece of Sir Henry Roper of Stoke House,
Chichester at 29 Apr 1862 at Coolock. He had a practice at 52 Sackville Street, Dublin
and 14 South Mall, Cork.
5 Edward Lindsay fourth son born circa 1825 barrister of Maryville, Cork and Lindville,
Co Tipperary, married Louisa Ormsby, eldest daughter of Arthur Ormsby, of Beaumont,
Blackrock, Proctor of the Prerogative Court on 1 Jul 1857 at SS Phillip and James,
Booterstown. They lived at Hilton House, Blackrock. Edward died at Maryville, Cork on
17 Aug 1867 aged 42 and Louisa moved to Hilton Lodge, 37 Waltham Terrace. Louisa
died 21 Dec 1914 aged 83 at Hilton Lodge.
1 John Ormsby Lindsay born circa 1859. John of Hilton Lodge was a solicitor with a
practice at 197 Great Brunswick Street. He married Frances O Williams, only child
of the late James Williams, of Carmarthen and Waltham Terrace and grand daughter
of the late Richard Willis of Tullamore at SS Philip and James, Booterstown. They
lived at Ivy Bank, Georges Avenue, Blackrock. John died in a motor accident in a
char a banc at Bournemouth on 1 Oct 1907 and was buried at Deansgrange.
Frances moved to Woodville after John's death. She died 14 Jul 1940 at Woodville
and was buried at Deansgrange. They had no issue but looked after her niece Olive
Perrin.
2 Arthur Lindsay born circa 1861 died a bachelor 20 Jul 1920 at Hilton and was buried
at Deansgrange.
3 Louisa Maria Lindsay born circa 1863 died a spinster 21 Sep 1902 at Hilton Lodge
and buried at Deansgrange.
4 Anna Matilda Lindsay born 27 Sep 1864 died a spinster 28 Feb 1962 at Hilton Lodge
and was buried at Deansgrange.
5 Emily Lindsay born 16 Mar 1867 at Gardiner Street married John George Knox
Perrin, a clerk and son of Francis Perrin on 31 Dec 1896 at the Registrars Office,
Rathdown. Emily died 5 Apr 1897 at Seafort, Liverpool and was buried in Mount
Jerome. John died at Cambridge, Auckland, New Zealand circa September 1902
aged 37.
1 Olive Emily Perrin born circa 1887 lived with her Aunt Francis Lindsey at
Woodville.
6 Paul Lindsay born circa 1828 died a bachelor a Maryville on 4 Mar 1895.
* Mr Anthony was a well known collector of gold, paintings and antiquities with a
museum in Kilkenny.
