John Murray son of John and Bridget Murray was a blacksmith of Galloping Green in 1855. He
married Maria Gavin at St Andrews Westland Row on 25 Nov 1860. Maria was living at 14 Merrion
Square and was the daughter of Richard and Catherine Gavin of Tyrellspass, Co Westmeath. John
was a blacksmith and worked from The Forge, 3 Grange Cottages from 1869 but may have lived
there from 1855. John died 12 Sep 1875 at Galloping Green. Marie died 21 Sep 1912 at Grange
Cottages and was buried at Deansgrange.
1 Catherine (Kathleen Murray) born circa 1862 married Philip Tanham on 19 Feb 1882 at
Cabinteeley RC Church. Philip was the son of Richard Tanham, a gardener and was born in Kells,
Co Meath. He was working as a gardener at Balally Park and subsequently worked at Woodview
House, Mount Merrion Avenue. They had eleven children of whom 9 survived in 1911. Catherine
was living with seven of their children in Dodder Walk, Rathgar and Philip was living in the Iveagh
Hostel. Philip was the gardener at Drummartin Castle from 1918 to 1923. Philip died
12 July 1930 aged 79 at the South Dublin Workhouse, late of Iveagh House and Kathleen
died 21 Apr 1933 at Grangegorman Hospital, late of Drummartin Castle. Both were buried
at Deansgrange.

2 Maria Tanham born 26 Nov 1885 at Merton, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford married Edward
Hopkins on 25 Jan 1911 at the Church of the Three Patrons in Rathmines.
3 Margaret Tanham born 29 Feb 1888 at Woodview, Blackrock was living with her
grandmother at Galloping green in both 1901 and 1911.
4 Michael Tanham born circa 1890 Co Dublin was a gardener in 1911.
5 Johanna Tanham born 28 Jun 1892 at 3 Dartry Cottages was a stationery clerk in 1911.
6 Catherine (Kate) Tanham born 9 Jan 1895 at Dartry Cottages worked in the hat business in
1911.
7 William Patrick Tanham born 17 Mar 1896 at Dartry Cottages.
8 Bridget Tanham born 24 Sep 1898 at 3 Dartry Cottages.
9 Isabella Tanham born 28 Jul 1902 at Dartry Cottages.

died a bachelor 7 Oct 1910 at Stillorgan and was buried at Deansgrange.

4 William Murray born 21 Feb 1869 at Grange died 30 May 1878.
5 Patrick Murray born 9 Oct 1872 married Mary Frahill at Glasthule RC Church on 5 Sep 1914 and
took over the forge at 3 Grange Cottages. Mary was living at Elton Place in Sandycove and was
the daughter of Thomas Frahill, a farmer. She was from County Limerick and had previously
worked for the Andrews family of Newtown House, Blackrock. Mary died 28 Mar 1942 aged 63
at Grange Cottages and was buried at Deansgrange and Patrick, a farrier died on 28 Mar 1944 at
The Forge and was buried with his wife.
1 John Francis Murray born 3 Dec 1915 at Holles Street. He emigrated and it is thought that
he lost touch with the family. He died in Kingston upon Thames in 1988.
2 Thomas Noel Murray born 28 Dec 1916 at Galloping Green died 4 Feb 1917 at Grange
Cottages and was buried at Deansgrange.
3 Patrick Joseph Murray (twin) born 19 Apr 1918 at Holles Street married Kathleen (Kitty) Kelly
and they lived at 3 Grange Cottages.
4 Mary Bridget Murray (twin) born 19 Apr 1918 at Holles Street.
6 Johanna Murray born 15 Apr 1875 at Galloping Green was a dressmaker. She married Daniel
McCarthy, a DMP constable at Cabinteely Church on 15 Feb 1911. Daniel was the son of John
McCarthy, a railway official.
