John Monaghan born circa 1846 in the City of Dublin son of John Monaghan. He married
Mary Cooney on 19 Apr 1882 at Kells. Mary was a servant and the daughter of William
Cooney. From 1883 to 1885 they were living at the gatelodge of Verville, Clontarf
(psychiatric institution/private asylum for ladies). In 1901 they were living at Galloping
Green in the gatelodge of Knocksinna and John was a gardener working for Christopher
Gillespie. They had three children of whom two survived in 1911 and they were living on the
Kilmacud Road in Stillorgan. John was an unemployed gardener and his wife’s niece was
living with them. John died 17 Jul 1920 at Kilmacud and his son in law Patrick Cunningham
was the informant and made the funeral arrangements. Mary died 16 Jan 1936 at 1 Cullen’s
Cottages and Liam Cunningham of 1 Cullens Cottages, Kilmacud was the informant.
1 Child Monaghan died before 1901.
2 Mary Josephine Monaghan born 10 Oct 1883 at Verville Lodge, Clontarf was a
dressmaker. Mary died a spinster at St James’ Hospital late of Bunting Road,
Walkinstown 24 Feb 1964 and her nephew Patrick D Cunningham of Meath House
Stillorgan was the informant. She was buried with her parents.
3 Judith (Julia) Monaghan born circa 24 Jun 1885 at Verville, Clontarf, Co Dublin was
a monitress in 1901 and a school teacher in 1911. She married Patrick J
Cunningham on 14 Jul 1915 at Kilmacud Church. Peter was a postman resident in
Dundrum and the son of William Cunningham, a gardener. They lived at
Drommartin. Patrick died 2 Jul 1923 at St Vincent’s Hospital, late of Drummartin, his
brother Thomas the informant. Julia, a widow and retired teacher died 11 Mar 1964
at Edenderry, Co Offaly at the home of her granddaughter; Sheila Behan.
1 William Gerrard (Liam) Cunningham born 28 Jun 1916 at Drommartin Lodge,
Dundrum died a bachelor at Grianan, Kilmacud on 18 Jul 1945 and was buried
at Deansgrange.
2 Kieran Cunningham died 29 Jan 1948 and was buried at Deansgrange.
3 John Joseph Cunningham born 05 Mar 1919 at Drommartin Lodge, Dundrum.
4 Patrick Desmond (Paddy/Des) Cunningham born 19 Nov 1920 at Drommartin
Lodge. Dundrum. He was an insurance accountant and married Teresa Mary
(Terry) Moore on 28 Aug 1946 at Foxrock Church. Terry was the daughter of
Alexander Moore, a Stillorgan landlord. They later lived at Meath House,
Stillorgan. Paddy Cunningham was a founder member of the Dublin Speakers
Club and the founding father of the Dublin 2601 Toastmasters club and author
of “Toastmasters.... A Difficult Pregnancy”. He was also a town councillor.
5 Sheila Monica Cunningham died 9 Aug 1923 aged 6 weeks late of Drommartin
Lodge.
