Edward born circa 1856 in County Wicklow son of James was an agricultural/general labourer. He
married Elizabeth Gormley, daughter of Denis Gormley a labourer on 29 July 1873 at Barndarrig,
Dunganstown. Elizabeth was a servant living at Killmacurragh and Edward was living at Ballard,
Roundwood. By 1911 they had eight children of whom all eight survived. Edward died on
25 Feb 1926 at Stillorgan Road. Elizabeth died 20 Jan 1941 at the Little Sister's Home at Kilmainham
aged 85 and was buried at Glenealy, Co Wicklow.
1 Winifred McDonald born 6 May 1874 at Kilamana, baptised at Ashford married Patrick
Toole, a labourer and son of Luke & Bridget Toole, from Aughrim at Sandyford RC Church on
18 Oct 1891. Both gave their residence as Stepaside.
2 Denis McDonald born 1 Mar 1876 at Dunganstown, Co Wicklow.
3 James McDonald born 21 Sep 1878 at Killoughter, Ashford, Co Wicklow.
4 Bridget Mary McDonald born 9 Oct 1881 at Killoughter, Ashford, Co Wicklow.
5 Edward McDonald born 3 Dec 1883 at Tittour, near Newcastle Co Wicklow. He joined the
British army at Dundrum in March 1901. He was with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, service
No 7435 and served in Malta, Egypt, South Africa and India and was discharged in 1913. He
enlisted again during WW1. He was a private, service No 5353, 7th Battalion, Royal Munster
Fusiliers and was killed in action on 17 Aug 1916 at Gallipoli and is remembered on the
Helles Memorial in Turkey.
6 Esther McDonald born at Fairfield in Coolock on 19 May 1886 married William Traynor son of
the late William Traynor on 31 Aug 1904 at Kilmacud Church. Esther was living at Jolly’s Lane
and both parties were 19 years of age. William was described variously as a gardener, general
labourer and caretaker and worked for the Hospitallar of St John of God. They lived at the gate-
lodge of St John of God from 1904 and they had at least ten children. William died suddenly at
the gatelodge on 23 Dec 1953 and was buried at St John of God, one of the few lay people to be
buried there. Esther died at the gatelodge 10 Apr 1971 and was buried at Deansgrange with
her son William.
1 William Joseph Traynor born 9 Oct 1905 at Kilmacud Road married Nora McCluskey
4 Jan 1928 at Sandyford Church. She was the daughter of Michael McCluskey, a
labourer, and was a servant working in Sandyford. He was a ships inspector living at 50
Spring gardens, North Strand Street. He died 11 Feb 1929 and was buried in
Deansgrange.
2 Elizabeth Traynor born 19 Sep 1907 at the Rotunda Hospital married Michael Sylvester
McDonald, a motor mechanic and son of Sylvester McDonnell, a gardener at Blackrock
Church on 27 Aug 1930. Elizabeth died 24 Jun 1931 at the Lourdes Hospital from TB on
24 Jun 1931 and was buried at Deansgrange.
3 Edward Traynor born 30 Jan 1910 at Stillorgan married Mary Doran of Annaville
Avenue, and daughter of Myles Doran, a labourer at Blackrock Church on 11 Aug 1935.
4 Bridget Traynor born 16 Mar 1912 at Stillorgan married William Bradshaw, a building
labourer of Millmount Terrace, Windy Arbour on 2 Jun 1941 at Blackrock Church.
5 John Thomas Traynor born 3 May 1914 at Stillorgan married Elizabeth Cahill of Stillorgan
and daughter of Thomas Cahill at Sandyford Church on 17 May 1936. They lived at
Brewery Road. John was killed at Tig Lorcain Hall where he was working when a wall
collapsed on 14 Sep 1939. He was buried at Deansgrange. Elizabeth never remarried and
is buried with her husband.
6 Patrick Joseph Traynor born 11 Jun 1916 at Stillorgan married Mary Bruton of 13 Carysfort
Avenue and daughter of Patrick Bruton, a servant at Blackrock Church on 9 Dec 1941.
7 Winifred Patricia Traynor born 2 Jul 1918 at Stillorgan married Thomas Timmons, a carter
and son of John Timmons on 22 Sep 1945 at Blackrock Church.
8 Kevin Vincent Traynor born 20 Aug 1920 at Stillorgan married Margaret Walsh and they
lived at Lower Mercer Street.
1 David Kevin Traynor died 1 Mar 1947 aged 3 months at lower Mercer Street and
was buried with his uncle William at Deansgrange.
7 Margaret McDonald born 6 Dec 1889 at Balally baptised at Sandford RC Church was a dressmaker
living with her parents in Stillorgan in 1911.
8 Catherine McDonald born 26 Sep 1892 at Stepaside baptised was a National School monitress
living with her parents in Stillorgan in 1911. She married John Sinnott, a gardener (possibly working
as a gardener at St John of God) and son of (Mat) Sinnott at Dundrum RC Church on 5 Sep 1911.
