Charles Mayne married his cousin Dorothea Mayne. Dorothea was the daughter of
Edward Mayne of Brandrum House, Co Monaghan. They lived at Freame Mount, Co
Cavan.
1 Edward Mayne eldest son born baptised 30 Aug 1756. He graduated Trinity
and married Sarah Fiddes on 26 Jun 1780 (ML). Sarah was the daughter of
the late John Fiddes, attorney of Dublin, and his wife Catherine Walsh of
Lislea, Co Monaghan. They had at least twelve children. Justice Edward
Mayne was living at Churchtown House, Dundrum in 1792 and was a
churchwarden of Taney. He was Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of
Ireland from 1805 to 1816 and Judge of The Court of the King's Bench from
1816 to 1818. Edward died 7 May 1829 at the home of his son Charles in
Cashel and was interred at the churchyard of Cashel. Sarah died 27 Oct 1853
at New Street, Spring Gardens, London aged 88.
1 Dorothea Mayne eldest daughter born circa 1783 married her cousin
widower John Mayne on 29 May 1813 in Dublin.
2 Charles Walsh Mayne eldest son baptised 16 May 1785 at St Mary’s
Church. He married Susanna Henn on 10 Apr 1813 in Dublin. Susanna
was the daughter of William Henn, Master in Chancery. Charles took
Holy orders and was later rector rector of Killaloe.
3 Edward Mayne second son born circa 1791. He died as last surviving
son on 4 Jan 1875 at Leamington Spa.
4 John Mayne third son born circa 1793. He was a barrister and married
Anna Graves in 1822. They had at least five children. John died
26 Feb 1829 at Mountjoy Place.
1 Edward Graves Mayne born circa 1823 lived at Elgin Road.
2 John Dawson Mayne youngest son born December 1828 was a
barrister and later a judge. He married Helen Sarah Hamilton on
11 Aug 1859 in Mylapore, Madras and divorced in 1872.
3 Sarah Kate Mayne married Dawson Mayne in July 1853. Dawson
was the son of John Mayne of Runnymede.
5 Richard Mayne fourth son baptised 30 Nov 1796 at Taney Church. He was
educated at Trinity college Dublin and in 1814 he went on the grand tour
with his brother Charles. In graduated MA from Trinity College, Cambridge
in 1821. He was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1822 and commenced
practice on the Northern Circuit. He was appointed head of the London
Metropolitan Police in 1829, a position he held until 1868. He married
Georgiana Cavick on 15 Aug 1831 at Danbury. Georgiana was the eldest
daughter of Thomas Cavick of Riffham Lodge, Essex. He was Companion of
the Bath in 1847 and knighted in 1851. They lived at Spring Gardens,
London. Richard died 26 Dec 1868 and was interred at Kensal Green
cemetery. He was survived by his widow and six children.
1 Richard C Mayne eldest son enter the Royal Navy he fought in the
war in New Zealand and was wounded. He was appointed
commander of the Nassau in 1866.
6 William Mayne born circa 1798 joined the army and attained the rank of Lt
Colonel. He died a bachelor on 4 May 1867 at 95 Ebury Street, London.
7 Catherine Mayne born circa 1799 married Basil Robinson Heron in December
1819. Basil was with the Royal Horse Artillery and the only son of John L
Heron of Langthorne Hall, in York.
8 Dawson Mayne seventh son born circa 1800. In entered the Royal Navy in
1812 and attained the rank of captain. He served in the East Indies and was
wounded at Algiers in 1816. He was employed in the West Indies until 1832
and later worked as an inspector commander for the coast guard service.
He married Elizabeth Mary Hewitt in 1840. He retired in 1856. He died at
Killaloe on 25 Sep 1872.
9 Margaret Mayne born circa 1803 married Thomas Edward Beatty at the
house of the British Ambassador on 29 Sep 1823. Thomas was the
second son of Dr Beatty of Molesworth Street. Thomas secondly married
Maria Mayne, daughter of John Mayne of Runnymede.
10 Sarah Mayne third daughter married the Rev Richard French Lawrence at
Cashel Cathedral on 18 May 1830. Richard was the nephew of his Grace
the Archbishop of Cashel. Sarah died circa 1832.
11 Robert Mayne born circa 1806 joined HM 86th Regiment and attained the
rank of captain. He died a bachelor on 4 May 1843 at Peel’s River Sydney,
NSW.
12 Frances Rebecca (Fanny) Mayne born circa 1808 died a spinster on
23 Oct 1872 at Killaloe.
