La Touche Family of Upton Park, Carlow
Colonel David La Touche IV eldest son of Castle Street baptised on 27.05.1768 at St Werburgh’s
Church. David of the Carlow Militia married Lady Cecelia Leeson daughter of Joseph the 1st Earl of
Milltown on 24.12.1789. They went to live at Upton House, Carlow. David had been given the house
at Marlay but sold it to his younger brother John David. David died on 15.03.1816 aged 46 years and
Cecelia died 1848.
1 David La Touche eldest son born circa 1790 and died unmarried in 1830 aged 40 years.
2 Elizabeth La Touche baptised on 10.11.1790 at St Peter’s Church. Elizabeth married in 1819
to Rev William Crosbie son of Maurice Crosbie the Dean of Limerick who had succeeded his
cousin in 1815 as Lord Bandon. Their marriage broke down in 1829. William died on
04.05.1832 in Nice. Elizabeth widow of Lord Brandon died on 01.04.1862 at Torquay.
3 Harriet La Touche 2nd daughter born circa 1795 married Vice Admiral Villiers Francis Hatton
of the Royal Navy eldest son of George Hatton on 24.05.1817. Harriet died on 23.12.1866 at
Wimbledon.
4 Rev John William La Touche 2nd son born circa 1796 at Marlay baptised on 30.11.1796 at St
Peter’s. John was Vicar of Mountrath and married Elizabeth Bowker eldest daughter of
Alexander Bowker of King’s Lynn, Norfolk on 09.04.1840 at Leghorn, Tuscany. Elizabeth died
on 26.12.1841 having given birth to a son at Geneva. John, prebend of St Patrick’s Church then
married Louisa Wale 3rd daughter of late General Sir Charles Wale of Shelford House,
Cambridge on 18.12.1850 at Shelford. John late of Clonnmethen, Dublin died on 02.02.1870 at
11 Rue Str Jean, Boulogne-Sur-Mer, France. Probate to widow Louisa.
5 Frances Maria La Touche 3rd daughter born circa 1796 died unmarried circa 28.03.1827
following eight years of a painful illness at Leeson Street, Dublin.
6 George La Touche born circa 1798 married Amelia Nugee daughter of Francis James Nugee of
Bruton Street, Berkeley Square, London on 02.08.1831 at St Margaret’s, Westminster.
7 Major Peter La Touche born circa 1799 of 7th Bengals married Fanny Maxwell daughter of
Brigadier General William George Maxwell of Dumfries on 04.08.1828 in India. Peter a widower
then married Ellen Maria Bestandig daughter of Charles Bestandig of Gottingen on 12.09.1833
at St George’s Church, Cape Town. Peter was a successor to his uncle in Bellevue and died on
16.05.1849 aged 50 years at Almora, India. Ellen died 01.07.1845 at Bath.
8 William La Touche born circa 1799 died young.
9 Joseph Robert La Touche of Stephen’s Green baptised 10.02.1801 at St Peter’s Church.
10 Cecil La Touche youngest son born circa 1805 and entered Trinity 1822. Cecil late Captain 6th
Royal Fusiliers died on 20.01.1836 at Glenn Southwell, Rathfarnham.
11 Emily La Touche born circa 1807 died on 28.07.1867 at Exmouth.
12 Mary La Touche born circa 1809 married Chambré Brabazon-Ponsonby on 30.04.1834 at
Clifton. Mary died on 10.08.1840 at Fanlight Place, St Leonard’s-on-Sea.
