Hatton of Leopardstown Park
Villiers Francis Hatton was born on 20 Aug 1787. He was the son of George Hatton and
Lady Isabella Seymour-Conway. He entered the Royal Navy in 1799 and served on the
West India Station. He served under Capt Robert Cathcart and and lost an arm in June
1808 during the Dano-Norwegian Battle. He married Henrietta La Touche on
24 May 1817. His estate was Clonard, County Wexford and he was elected MP for
Wexford in 1841. They lived at Delgany and had had a residence in North Great
Georges Street in 1841. They leased Leopardstown Park House from 1844 to 1854. He
attained the rank of Rear Admiral in the Royal Navy and was a witness in the Colclough
court case. Harriet died 23 Dec 1866 at Wimbledon. Villiers died on 9 Feb 1859 at 81
Eaton Place, London and left 8K in personal estate.
1 Cecelia G Hatton born circa 1823 in London married George Baird on
15 Nov 1858 at St George’s Church, Hanover Square London. George was the
son of Alexander Baird and Jane Moffat, and was resident in Strichill,
Aberdeenshire, Scotland. A reception was held at her father’s Eaton Place
Mansion. George was heir to the Gartsherrie iron works and held 17000 acres
in Scotland. He died in August 1870 aged 60 and was buried at Strichill. Cecelia
died on 5 March 1895 at was buried with her husband and son.
1 George Alexander Baird only child born 30 Sep 1861 at Stritchill House,
Kelso. He was a race horse owner, breeder and amateur. He rode and
boxed under the assumed name of Mr Abington. In 1890 George was
named as co-respondent in the divorce case brought by Francis
Darbishire against his wife actress Agnes Hewitt. He also had an affair
with Lillie Langtry. He took up prize fighting and died a bachelor on
18 Mar 1893 at the St Charles Hotel, New Orleans. His body was
repatriated and he was buried at Strichill churchyard next to his father.
He left 847K in personal estate. (over €150 million).
2 Villiers La Touche Hatton was born on 15 April 1824 in Sussex. He married Rosia
Mary de Bathe on 6 Nov 1850 in London. Villiers died on 2 Feb 1897 and left 14K
in personal estate.

4 William De Bathe Hatton born 25 Dec 1855 in London. He joined the army
and attained the rank of major. He married Julia Charlotte Stevens in 1892.
3 Elizabeth Francis Hatton youngest daughter born circa 1827 in Kent married
Colonel Arthur Lowry Cole, son of General Sir Galbraith Lowry Cole and Lady
Frances Harris, on 29 Nov 1854 at St Peter’s Church, Pimlico. Arthur retired from
service in March 1858 and died in Wimbledon in March 1885. Frances died on
22 May 1889 at Wimbledon.

2 Florence Kate Lowry Cole second daughter born 1857 in Quebec, Canada
married Rev Frank Henry Payne Gallwey in April 1888 at Wimbledon Parish
Church. They had five children. Florence died 10 Dec 1927 and Frank died in
1934.
3 Maud G Lowry Cole born circa 1859 in Canada.
4 Arthur Willoughby George Lowry Cole elder son born 29 Nov 1860 joined the
army and attained the rank of Brigadier General. He married widow Mary
Gertrude Thorold nee Browning in 1908. He died from wounds on 9 May 1915.
5 William John Lowry Cole born 26 Mar 1866 at Wimbledon was a land agent.
6 Mabel Henrietta Lowry Cole born circa 1869 died September 1952 in Sussex.
