La Touche Family of Marlay, Rathfarnham
David married Elizabeth daughter of George Marlay. Bishop of Dromore in 1762. In 1764 David
purchased Harold’s Grange from Thomas Taylor. He rebuilt the house and named it Marlay after his
wife’s family. The property was sold to Robert Tedcastle of the Dublin coal merchants in 1864.
David was an investor in the Grand Canal Company, Wide Streets Commissioner, Treasurer of The Lock
Penitentiary, founder member of Kildare Street Club.

1 Elizabeth La Touche eldest daughter baptised on 11.02.1764 at St Mary’s Church married
Robert Herbert Butler the 3rd Earl of Lanesborough in 1781. She was just 17 years old.
Elizabeth the Countess of Lanesborough died on 22.09.1788 aged 24 years in London.
2 Mary Anne La Touche of Castle Street baptised on 31.01.1765 at St Werburgh’s Church.
3 Emelia La Touche of Castle Street baptised on 15.04.1767 at St Werburgh’s Church married
Col George Vesey of Lucan House in Nov.1790.
4 Colonel David La Touche IV eldest son of Castle Street baptised on 27.05.1768 at St
Werburgh’s Church. David of the Carlow Militia married Lady Cecelia Leeson daughter of
Joseph the 1st Earl of Milltown on 24.12.1789.
David had been given the house at Marlay but sold it to his younger brother John David and
the family went to live at Upton House, Carlow. David died on 15.03.1816 aged 46 years and
Cecelia died 1848.
5 Anne La Touche of Castle Street 3rd daughter baptised on 23.06.1769 at St Werburgh’s Church
married George Jefferyes son of James St John Jefferyes of Blarney Castle on 04.08.1792.
6 George La Touche 2nd son of Castle Street baptised on 28.12.1770 at St Werburgh’s Church.
George died on 20.05.1824 aged 55 years at his house on Stephen’s Green.
7 John David La Touche born circa 02.01.1772 married Anne Caroline Tottenham daughter of
Charles Tottenham of New Ross on 16.03.1799. John and Anne lived at Marlay and had 5
children. John David died on 20.08.1838 at Marlay. He was succeeded by David Charles.
Anna Caroline died on 15.06.1852 aged 73 years at Marlay and they are buried at Whitechurch.
1 David Charles La Touche eldest son born circa 1800 DL a Colonel of the City of Dublin
Militia. Educated at Trinity College. David died on 11.08.1872 aged 73 years at
Lavallee, Bray.
2 Charles John Digues La Touche born circa 1811 converted to Catholicism in 1844 and
moved to Tours in France. Charles died circa 1884.
3 Anne Caroline La Touche youngest daughter born circa 1815. Following her suffering
after the Queen Steamer struck rocks and sank on 01.09.1843 at Skokhalm she died on
09.07.1844 of consumption at Marlay.

5 Frances Caroline La Touche died on 16.12.1876 at 19A Mount Street, Grosvenor Square.
8 Harriett La Touche married Sir Nicholas Colthurst, 3rd Baronet of Ardrum, Cork on 08.05.1788 in
Dublin by special licence. They had 3 children. Nicholas died in July 1795. Harriet died on
13.03.1841 at Clifton.
9 Peter La Touche born circa 1775 4th son of David of Marley, brother of David and Robert Anthony
married 06.09.1806 Charlotte Maude 4th daughter of Cornwallis, 1st Viscount Hawarden.
Peter succeeded his Uncle Peter to the Bellevue Estate. Peter died 11.02.1830 aged 54 years.
Charlotte died on 03.12.1874 aged 91 years at her residence.
10 Maria La Touche born circa 1778 married Right Hon Maurice FitzGerald, Knight of Kerry, of Glanleam,
Kerry on 05.11.1801. Maria died on 13.11.1829 in London.
11 Robert Anthony La Touche 6th son born circa 1781. Robert was a Lt-Col of the Carlow Militia in 1808
and MP for Carlow and brother of David and Peter Latouche educated Eton 1796, Christ Church,
Oxford 1799 aged 17 and Lincolns Inn 1802. Robert died unmarried on 19.11.1849 aged 69 years.
