Lieutenant John Knipe, of the 57th Regiment of Foot married Rachel Gerrard on
17 Aug 1797 (ML) Rachel was the daughter of Thomas Gerrard and Elinor Carroll of
Gibbstown, County Meath. Rachel died circa 1821.
1 Elizabeth Mary Knipe died a spinster on 20 Feb 1871 at Sydenham Road, her
brother George Thomas her executor. She left 14K in personal estate to
both her surviving brother and her step siblings. Money was lodged with the
court for her step sister Isabella Louisa who was of weak mind.
2 William Gerrard Knipe born circa 1814 graduated Trinity and took Holy orders.
He was the curate of Ragdale Melton Mowbray and of Six Hill Episcopal Chapel,
both in the County of Leicester. He died on 24 Jun 1870 at Sydenham Road,
Dundrum formerly of Gibbstown, Co Meath and left 8K in personal estate.
3 George Thomas Knipe born circa 1819 living at Springfield Lodge Dalkey in
1858 and at Sydenham Road in 1871 died 11 Aug 1875 in Homberg, Prussia,
late of 7 Sydenham Road and left 14K in personal estate. Executor Thomas
Gerrard.
Captain John Knipe of the 5th Dragoon guards of Spring Hill, Borris in Ossory secondly
married Catherine Egan on 8 Feb 1823. Catherine was the daughter of Richard Egan
and Dorothea Young of Arran Street, Dublin. John died in July 1840 at Spring Hill,
Queen’s County. Catherine lived with her brother John at Mount Salem after the death
of her husband and died 17 Apr 1870 at Brighton Terrace, Kingstown aged 72.
4 Emily Rosamond Knipe second daughter born 30 Jun 1824 at 19 Upper
Dominic Street was baptised at St Mary’s. She married William Henry Woods
at Monkstown Church on 10 Nov 1853. William was an MD of the Royal Navy
and the youngest son of the late Andrew Woods of Baggot Street. Emily died
a widow on 30 Aug 1904 in Hertfordshire.
1 Emily Rosamond Woods born circa 1856 in East Stonehouse, Devon
died a spinster on 21 Sep 1913 at 15 Clarinda Park North, Kingstown,
probate to her sister Lucy.
2 William Andrew George Woods born circa 1857 in Plymouth was a
barrister in 1891 and died 29 Aug 1927.
3 Lucy Knipe Woods born 25 Mar 1858 in Dublin died a spinster in 1940.
4 Vivian W Woods born circa 1861 was a medical student in 1881.
5 Albert Edward Woods born circa 1862 in Dublin was a cadet in 1881
5 John Frederick Knipe third son born circa 1825 He was an MD, and lived at
Mount Salem from 1849 to 1853. He married Lucy Whitby on 29 Jan 1856 at
St Mary’s, Edge Hill in Liverpool. Lucy was the youngest daughter of William
Whitby, a merchant of Liverpool. Lucy’s father died in 1859 and Lucy and
John acted as executors. They lived Lime Hill, St Doloughs from 1858 to 1860
when he put the property up for sale. They moved to Beneavin in Finglas. John
died 2 Jul 1893 at Beneavin, Glasnevin and left £632 in personal estate. He was
buried at Mount Jerome. Lucy died 17 Sep 1898 late of Wellington Place,
Dublin and was buried with her husband.
1 Ada Emily Knipe eldest daughter born born 9 Mar 1857 at 1 Smith’s
Buildings, Ely Place living at Beneavin in 1893 and at13 Wellington
Place in 1898. She was living with her sister Eleanor in 1911 and 1921.
She died a spinster in 1925 at Finchley.
2 Emma Knipe second daughter born 23 Aug 1860 at Lime Hill, St
Doloughs. She married James Patterson on 4 Mar 1896 at Finglas
Parish Church. James of Barronstown, Maynooth was the eldest son
of Rev S Patterson. By 1911 they were living at Northumberland
Road and James was a land agent.
1 Lucy Victoria Paterson born 28 Feb 1897 at Lucan.
2 Frederick Knipe Paterson born 10 Jan 1901 at the Crescent,
Lucan.
3 Eleanor Knipe youngest daughter born circa 1862 at Lime Hill, St
Doloughs. Eleanor married the Rev Arthur Bonynge at St Cannice’s
Church, Finglas on 5 Jun 1895. Arthur was the rector at Miltown
Malbay, Co Clare. She was a widow living at Hemel Hempstead in
1911 and at 68, Woodgrange Avenue, Finchley in 1921.
1 Frederick Charles Bonynge born Dublin circa 1900 was a
lieutenant in the Indian Army Office in 1921.
2 Arthur Francis Bonynge born 24 Aug 1896 at Lucan.
4 Jess Knipe born 17 Oct 1863 died 11 Dec 1863 at Beneavin House,
Finglas.
6 Elliott Arthur Knipe a civil servant lived at Mount Salem from 1850 to 1853.
It is thought he was transferred as registrar and accountant to the new
Royal Mint in Australia in 1854. He was retired and living in Temple Street in
1894. He died a bachelor on 7 Nov 1901 at Temple Street and was buried at St
Georges. Lucy Knipe Woods was his executor.
7 Louisa Isabella Knipe born circa 1829 was committed to Stewarts Institution
circa 1881 suffering from hereditary mania. She died a spinster on 31 Jan 1915
at Palmerston House Asylum. Her niece Emma her executor.
