Richard Egan born circa 1752 possibly the son of James and Anne Egan. Richard Egan of
Arran Street married Dorothea Young. Dorothea died at Mount Salem, the residence of her
son James in October 1846.
1 James Egan born circa 1791 an attorney of 83 Dorset Street upper in 1839. He lived
at Mount Salem from 1845 until his death in February 1851.
2 Catherine Egan born circa 1798 married widower Captain John Knipe on 8 Feb 1823.
3 William Maxwell Egan born circa 1805 in Dublin educated in Co Wicklow. He was
living at 23 Arran Street and married Mary Anne Bentley 1 Dec 1820 (ML) at St Peter’s
Church. Mary-Anne was the eldest daughter of W Frederick Bentley of Bride Street.
He was an attorney of 83 Dorset Street from 1837 to 1843 and was at 190 Britain
Street in 1844. He was living at Mount Salem in 1846 and died 1 Jan 1854 at James’
Street. Mary Anne was living on Donnybrook Road in 1854.
1 Henry William Egan only son born circa 1823 graduated Trinity and was called
to the Irish Bar but never practiced. Instead, he took Holy orders and was
conferred with an MA in 1851. He was a curate of St Andrew’s in Newcastle
and was commissioned a chaplain to the forces in 1855 and was principal
chaplain based at Scutari in the Crimea 1856 and chaplain to the London
Guards and HM household Guards in 1857. He returned to Dublin to officiate
at his uncle Mark Bentley’s marriage in Monkstown. He married Lucinda
Constance Bicknell on 7 Aug 1861 at St Paul’s Church, St George’s, Hanover
Square, London. Lucinda was the youngest daughter of E Bicknell of Herne Hill,
Surrey. By 1862 he was senior curate at St George, Hanover Square. He
assumed the additional surname of Desmond by 1874. Henry died on
17 Feb 1902 at Palmeira Square, Hove, Brighton and left 5K in personal estate.
Lucinda died at Kensington on 5 Aug 1928.
1 Constance Beatrice Maxwell Egan eldest daughter born circa 1863
married Thomas Gibbons Frost on 23 Apr 1888 at St Jude’s Church,
Southsea. Thomas was the second son of Sir Thomas Gibbons Frost.
2 Ethel Gertrude Egan born circa 1864 in Geneva, Switzerland was living at
De Vere Gardens, Kensington with her mother in 1921. She died a
spinster on 16 Apr 1931 at Kensington.
3 Elinor (Nellie) Egan-Desmond third daughter born circa 1876 in Malvern,
Worcestershire. She married Count Raoul de Diesbach-Belleroche in
September 1900. Count Raoul of the Chateau de Remaugies, Somme,
France.
4 Edith Marion (Marion) Egan-Desmond youngest daughter born
13 Feb 1877 at Hampstead, Middlesex married Arthur Lambton on
10 Sep 1918.
