Philip Kearney son of Daniel Kearney and Bridget Tool married Bridget Byrne, the daughter
of James Byrne from Wicklow on 12 Oct 1883 at Little Bray. Bridget died circa 1888 and his
father Daniel died in Rathdown Workhouse in 1910.
1 James Kearney born 28 Jul 1884 at Glendruid, Cabinteely was an apprentice gardener in
1901 possibly working for the Robertson family of Milltown in 1911.
2 Philip Kearney born 31 Oct 1885 at Beaufield gatelodge, Stillorgan enlisted and was a private
with the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers and served in Quetta, Pakistan in 1910. He enlisted
again in 1914 and served in WW1 surviving the war. He was involved in the War of Independence
and the Civil War. He was a railway porter and married Kathleen Bourke at Goldenbridge on
22 Apr 1923. He died 24 Jul 1947 at Mourne Road.
3 Daniel Kearney born Dublin Road, Carlow on 29 Dec 1886. He was a gardener and married
Anne Smith of Anglesea Buildings, Kingstown at St Michael's Church, Kingstown and was living
at 62 Patrick Street in 1920.
Phillip secondly married Esther Carthy of Stillorgan village at Kilmacud Church on 26 Jun 1892*. They
required a consanguinity dispensation to marry (3rd degree grade - meaning they were second cousins).
Esther was the daughter of Tim Carthy and Sara Toole of Stillorgan. Philip was living at Beaufield and
was a gardener. He then worked at Ruby Lodge for the Willington family from 1910 to 1920. Philip
died at Ruby gatelodge* 13 Sep 1920 and was buried at Deansgrange. Esther, late of Ruby gatelodge,
Booterstown, died on 1 Mar 1925 at St Catherine's, Rock Road age 55 and was buried at Deansgrange.
4 John Joseph (Johnny) Kearney born 4 Jan 1894 at Kilmacud, Stillorgan. He enlisted in Dun
Laoghaire, 4th Company, 2nd Battalion of The Irish Guards. Private Kearney No 9384 died of
wounds 1 Aug 1917 at Flanders and is remembered on the memorial at Dozinghem Military
Cemetery.
5 Sara Kearney born 4 Jul 1895, Galloping Green, Stillorgan. She was living at No 2 Pottery Road,
Kill O' the Grange and working as a maid when she married John Vickers at Cabinteely Church
on 3 May 1933.
6 Essie Kearney born 6 Jul 1899 at Kilmacud, Stillorgan. She was living at 16 Rock Road when she
married Charles Gallagher, a gardener at Booterstown RC Church on 18 Oct 1923.
7 Patrick Leo Kearney born 13 Sep 1901 died 25 Dec 1910 age 8 at Ruby gatelodge, Stillorgan
from TB and was buried at Deansgrange.
* Philip's sister Mary, who was a servant living at Beaufield Gatelodge, married a few days earlier at
Kilmacud Church as did Esther's brother, William.
* Ruby Lodge was renamed St Catherine's (Domestic Teacher training College) and subsequently bought
by the Blackrock Clinic.
