Jones Family of Drangan, Foxrock & Sligo and Elm Grove Blackrock
The townland of Drangan now known as Mount Edward in County Sligo was originally the seat of
Thomas Jones and his wife Dorothy who were living there at the end of the 18th century.
Captain James Jones born circa 1779 of the Sligo Regiment of Militia of Mount Edward and Lower
Gloucester Street died 10.05.1839 aged 60 years.
1 Major James Jones born circa 1805 eldest son of Captain Jones of Mount Edward, Sligo and
Leeson Park, Dublin married Mary Berkeley born circa 1809 only child of late Lieutenant
Colonel Berkeley of the East India Company’s Service, Madras on 08.11.1828 at St Thomas’s
Church, Sligo. Major Jones died 11.12.1877 aged 72 years at 3 Tobernea Terrace, Seapoint
and Mary died 06.05.1878 aged 69 years at 1 Marine Terrace, Dun Laoghaire.
1 Elizabeth Mary Jones eldest daughter married Major Arthur Philip Savage Wilkinson
CB 13th Prince Alberts Light Infantry only son late Lieut Colonel Arthur Wilkinson on
20.08.1850 at Warrenpoint Church.
2 Julia Maria Jones baptised 28.02.1837 at Onchan, Isle of Man.
3 Dorinda Arabella Augusta Jones born 12.01.1839 baptised 07.02.1839 at Onchan,
Isle of Man married Rev John Bristow son of James Bristow on 21.10.1863 at Holy
Trinity Church, Rathmines. In 1901 the family were living at Cliftonville Road, Antrim.

21.12.1865 at Holy Trinity Church, Rathmines. Richard died 08.06.1877 at 5 Peafield
Terrace, Blackrock.

Man.
6 Ormsby Colvill McClintock Jones born circa 1848 a Manager of the Royal Bank of
Ireland married Margaret Anna Hervey Adams daughter of John Hervey Adams of
Northlands, Cavan on 04.04.1871 at Holy Trinity Church, Rathmines. Ormsby of
Drangan, Foxrock died on 18.03.1923 aged 75 years at 4 Upper Pembroke Street.
Margaretta died on 12.03.1932 aged 84 years at Drangan, Foxrock.
1 Percy James Colvill Jones born 22.11.1872 at 35 Waterloo Place. Percy
married Geraldine Ethel Batt only daughter of Charles Ernest Batt on
30.11.1925 at All Souls Church, Marylebone. Percy a Barrister at Law, late of
Riverview, Portarlington died 26.05.1948 aged 75 years at Elpis Nursing
Home, Mount Street, Dublin.
2 John Hervey Colvill Jones born 28.08.1874 a widower died 22.08.1922 aged
48 years at 28 Upper Merrion Street of gunshot wounds which occurred
during a raid at his father’s residence Drangan.
3 Berkeley McClintock Colvill Jones born 30.05.1877 at 61 Upper Leeson
Street died 10.04.1883 of Whooping Cough aged 5 years at 43 Ailesbury
Road. Informant Aunt Frances Edith Jones.
4 Robert Cecil Colvill Jones 3rd survi ving son born 26.11.1882 at 61 Upper
Leeson Street. Robert died on 13.04.1905 at Drangan aged 22 years.
5 William Ambrose Colvill Jones born 16.09.1885 at 43 Ailesbury Road,
baptised at Leeson Park. William was a Clerical Assistant in the Land
Registry.
6 Dorothy Margaretta Colvill Jones only daughter born 27.07.1890 at Myrtle
Lodge, Foxrock baptised at St Brigid’s Church, Stillorgan died 12.03.1925
aged 30 years at Drangan, Foxrock.
7 Digby Manseragh Colvill Jones born 25.01.1893 at Myrtle Lodge, Foxrock
died 13.04.1913 aged 20 years at Monkstown Hospital following a Motor
accident.
7 Robert Edward Follet Jones youngest son born circa 1851 graduated Trinity and
married Frances Elizabeth Hervey Adams younger daughter of John Hervey Adams
on 03.09.1872 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Robert was an officer of the Registrar of
Petty Sessions Clerks and also acted as agent to his brother Ormsby who held the
lands at Sligo. The families lived at various houses around Dublin including Elm Grove.
Elizabeth died on 12.07.1930 aged 78 years and Robert died 01.02.1940 aged 89
years both at Portland House, Greystones.
1 Herbert James Follett Jones born 09.07.1873 at Winton Road, Leeson Park
died on 13.05.1890 aged 16 years at Rosemount, Blackrock.
2 Lindsey Follett Jones born 04.04.1875 at Winton Road, Leeson Park. Lindsey
a Medical Student the eldest surviving son died on 01.12.1895 at Elm Grove,
Blackrock aged 20 years.
3 Sidney Follet Jones born 20.06.1879 at 2 Winton Road, Leeson Park married
Muriel Gunning Johnston 4th daughter of John S Johnston, JP, Rockfield,
Stranorlar at Stranorlar Parish Church on 04.09.1915.
4 Elizabeth (Elsie) Noël Follett Jones born 25.12.1881 at 2 Winton Road attended
the Ladies Collegiate School in Blackrock.
2 John Ormsby Jones 2nd son born circa 1809 married Elinor Hone on 30.03.1847 at St George’s
Church, Dublin. They lived at Mount Salem, Stillorgan.
3 Eliza Jones eldest daughter died 22.04.1827 at Gloucester Street, Dublin.
4 Dorinda Jones eldest daughter married James Corry Lowry eldest son of James Lowry of
Rockdale House, Tyrone on 09.11.1832 at St Thomas’s Church, Dublin.
5 Julia Maria Jones born circa 1816 married William Thomas Bristow Lyons only son of William H
Lyons of Old Park on 25.02.1840 at St George’s Church. Julia died 16.12.1900 aged 84 years.
6 Margaret Jane Jones born circa 1819 married Burton Brabazon 2nd son of late Henry
Brabazon of Seafield, Louth on 14.01.1842 at St George’s Church, Dublin. Margaret died on
19.01.1879 aged 60 years and Burton died on 28.06.1880 aged 66 years at Dromiskin, Louth.
