Matthew Jones born circa 1804, son of James and Catherine Jones. He was a Hotel and Tavern
Proprietor of 47 North Wall which was called the Falmouth Hotel, renamed the Chester and
Holyhead Hotel in the 1850s. As Campions Pub it was demolished in 2000 to make way for the
National Conference Centre.
1 Mary Anne Jones, eldest daughter married William Meagher, North Wall, grandson of
William Maher of Roscrea, Co Tipperary on 21.05.1846. William was Lord Mayor of Dublin
in 1884.
2 Sarah Jones, second daughter married Arthur O'Neill of North King Street on 03.03.1851.
Arthur was a merchant and died 7 May 1862 at 171 North King Street. Sarah died at North
King street aged 35 on 22 June 1864 and was buried at Glasnevin.
1 Arthur O'Neill died 10 Dec 1860 aged 10 months at North King Street.
2 Sarah O'Neill died 7 May 1862 at 171 North King Street.
3 Eliza O'Neill died 23 June 1861 at 171 North King Street aged 6.
3 Catherine Jones baptised 30.09.1835 at St Nicholas.
He secondly married Maria Teresa Farrell, eldest daughter of Terence Farrell RHA of Warrington
Place at St Andrews Westland Row on 03.06.1861. Matthew put his hotel premises and livery yards
at 47 North all up for sale in 1866 as he was retiring after 40 years in business. They moved to
Redesdale and Matthew died 04.04.1880 at Redesdale and left about 13K in personal estate, his
will provided for his widow and the children of his second marriage only. His Will was opposed
by some of the children of his first marriage. See Jones v Mahers (Mackers/Macken) 1880.
Maria born circa 1824 died 15.10.1900 at Ormondville, Terenure and was buried at Glasnevin.
3 Elizabeth (Lillie) Jones born 10.04.1862 at North Wall married Stephen Vincent Eaton a
Widower 2nd son of Stephen Eaton 17.04.1882 at St Laurence O’Toole’s Church, Kilmacud.
Stephen was a director/owner of M & S Eaton, stationers of Dame & Grafton Street.
1 Robert Angelo Eaton born 02.10.1884 at Glenmore, Orwell Park. Robert of Tibradden,
Westfield Road married Eveleen Mary Ryan daughter of Charles Ryan of 55 Brighton
Road on 25.09.1911 at St Joseph’s Church, Terenure.
2 Stephen Aloysius Bernard Eaton born 20.08.1889 at Glenmore, Orwell Park, Rathgar
Infant son died 02.12.1889 aged 3 months at Glenmore.
3 Joseph Stanislaus Aloysius Mary Eaton born 07.05.1892 at Glenmore, Orwell Park.
4 Francis Xavier Vincent Eaton born 05.12.1893 at 1 Crosthwaite Terrace.
5 William Eaton born 16.03.1899 at St Michael’s, Dalkey.
4 James Aloysius Jones only son born 05.06.1863 baptised at St Lawrence’s Church, North Wall
married Ellen Theresa Coatsworth daughter of Thomas Coatsworth of Great Brunswick Street,
Dublin on 25.08.1884 at the Church of St Andrew, Westland Row Dublin. The family moved to
England circa 1889.
1 Rosanna Maria Theresa Jones born 14.05.1886 at Redesdale, Stillorgan.
2 James Coatsworth Jones born 03.04.1889 at 54 Brunswick Street, Dublin.
5 Agnes Jones born 14.09.1864 and baptised at St Lawrence's Church, North Wall on 26.09.1864.
Executrix of her mother's will in 1900, and noted as a spinster.
