Jolly family of Stillorgan
Daniel Jolly son of Robert Jolly, farmer of Kilmacud, Stillorgan. As a widower and dairyman he married
Hester Massy, a servant living at Bray and daughter of Richard Massy, farmer at Stillorgan Parish
Church (C of I) on 17 Jul 1856.
1 Robert Jolly born circa 1839 son of Daniel Jolley. A labourer of Stillorgan, he married Ellen
Bolton, daughter of Robert Bolton of 36 Whites Lane at St Mary's Dublin 28 Sep 1869. Robert
was working as a cabman when Ellen died at Baggot Court on 2 Jul 1873 aged 25.
1 Frances Jolly born 1872 died 1 Sep 1880 age 8 at City of Dublin Hospital, Baggot Street
buried at Stillorgan.
Robert secondly married Elizabeth Green daughter of George Green a farmer at Monkstown
Church on 29 Jul 1874. Robert was dairyman and they lived at 4 Baggot Court. He died
4 Feb 1887 age 48 at Baggot Court and left 1.4K in personal estate. His wife and his brother
Daniel were his executors. He was buried at Deansgrange. Elizabeth died 20 May 1901 and
was buried in Deansgrange. She left £900 in personal estate.
2 Robert Jolly born 6 Apr 1880 at Baggot Court died 26 Jul 1881 and was buried at
Stillorgan
2 Daniel Jolly, born circa 1849 at Stillorgan He married Susan Donnelly from Co Kildare on
1 Sep 1874 at Registrars Office at Coleraine. Susan was born in County Kildare, the daughter
of Peter Donnelly, a farmer. Both were servants working at Portstewart at the time of their
marriage. Daniel had various jobs as coachman, steward and in 1882 was the manager of
Whitechurch Laundry, Rathfarnham. He died a laundry proprietor/ painter of Williams
Cottage, Stillorgan on 5 Nov 1887 at the Adelaide Hospital aged 38 and was buried at
Deansgrange with his brother Robert Jolly. Susan was working as a laundress and living at
Brookvale, Stillorgan from 1890 to 1897 also possibly acting as a caretaker. In 1901 Susan
and her children were living in Carlow and in 1911 Susan was living on the Dublin Road,
Carlow with her single daughter Annie and three of her five children were still alive.
1 Ebenezer Jolley born 23 Sep 1875 at the Curragh Camp, Newbridge died 7 Nov 1875
at Naas.
2 Daniel Jolley born 24 Mar 1877 born at Salem House Lodge, Rathmines. He was
working as a gardener in 1901 and emigrated to England. He married Daisy May
Huggins in 1915.
3 Annie Bothwell Jolley born 23 Jun 1879 at Valley, Newport, Co Mayo.
4 Mary Elizabeth Jolley born at Whitechurch Laundry 13 Oct 1882 died before 1911.
5 Susan Lydia Jolley born 26 Oct 1887 married Samuel Semple, son of Joseph Mercer
Semple at the Methodist Church in Carlow on 10 Nov 1906. Susan was a laundress and
Joseph was a chief petty officer in the RN. Susan's aunt Mary Donnelly was living with
them in Cork in 1911.
