John Haughey a Hardware Merchant son of Edward and Catherine Haughey married Mary Ward
daughter of Maurice Ward, a Shopkeeper in 1870. John Haughey ran an Ironmonger and Fancy
Goods Shop at 8 Lower Bridge Street, Dublin. Wormwood gate was one of the outer medieval City
gates also know as Gormond's gate. It was two storeys high, vaulted and had a portcullis for the
gate and was situated between Cook Street and Mullinahack. Parts of the city wall were discovered
to the rear of the Shamrock Hotel, 9 Wormwood gate by William J Fitzpatrick, historian of Kilmacud
Manor in 1878. Photographs of the street taken by James Talbot-Power, Christmas 1890 and can been
found on the National Library of Ireland Website. James died 14.02.1894 and was buried at Glasnevin.
Mary died at Hazelwood, Dundrum and was buried with her husband.

24.04.1889 aged 12 years at 9 Blackhall Street.
6 Ellen Aloyisius Haughey born 09.03.1878 at 8 Lower Bridge Street.
7 William Stephen Haughey born 26.12.1879 at 8 Lower Bridge Street. William, a
solicitor of 4 Ontario Tce, Rathmines married Adrienne Madigan at St Mary's Haddington
Road on 03.09.1912. Adrienne was the daughter of John Madigan of Waterloo Place, the
niece of Bartholomew Madigan and grand niece of Surgeon General Madden. William
died 06.10.1949 and Adrienne died 03.12.1968 aged 82 and both were buried at
Glasnevin.
