Robert Way Harty youngest son of Timothy Harty and Mary Lockington born 27 Dec 1779. He had a
hosiery wholesale business at 9 Westmorland Street. His brother Colonel Joseph Mark fought at
Waterloo and his sister was married to Sit Thomas M’Kenny. He was an alderman and High Sheriff of
Dublin City for 1811-12. Lord mayor elect in 1929 and Lord Mayor of Dublin 1830/1 as well as being
elected MP for Dublin to which bribery was alleged. He married Elizabeth Davis in 1807. Elizabeth
was the daughter of John Davis and his wife Mary Jones of Eden Park. They lived initially at Eden Park
and in 1818 when Eden Park was put up for sale, they moved to 14 Merrion Square East and later
Prospect Hall. Robert was a director of the Grand Canal Company. He was created 1st Baronet
Harty of Prospect House Dublin in September 1831. He owned property in both Dublin and Kilkenny
including Archers medieval house (now know as Roth House). Sir Robert died from cholera on
10 Oct 1832 and Prospect house was leased to various tenants for a number of years. Dowager
Lady Elizabeth died at Prospect House on 9 Jun 1875 aged 86.
1 Robert Harty eldest son born 1815 at Eden Park and was educated at Trinity and became
the second Baronet on the death of his father in 1832. He was called to the bar in 1839.
Robert was a member of the RDS from 1848. He married Sophy Fairtlough on 6 Jan 1857
at St Peter’s Dublin. Sophy was the daughter of Rev Samuel Fairtlough, rector of Ahinagh.
They moved to Douglas on the Isle of Man in 1861 but were back in Dublin by 1863 living
at Prospect House and Leeson Park until 1870. They moved to England spending much
of the remainder of their lives there. Robert died in London on 3 Jan 1902. Lady Sophy
died at Brentford 28 May 1903 aged 77.
1 Caroline Elizabeth Josephine Harty born at 24 Feb 1858 at 6 Pembroke Terrace, a
spinster living in Brentford in 1911.
2 Robert Way Harty, only son born 1 Jun 1859 at 6 Pembroke Terrace baptised at
St Stephen’s Dublin died in Ilsenburg am Harz, Germany on 22 Jul 1879 from heart
disease.
3 Isabella Harriette Harty born, 5 Oct 1863 at 2 Leeson Park, baptised at St Stephens
was a spinster living in Brentford in 1911.
2 Louisa Matilda Harty, eldest daughter married George Haigh of the Mount, Halifax on the
11 Aug 1846 at St Peter’s Dublin. George was the son of George Haigh.
3 Marcus Harty, second son born circa 1819 was an engineer. He died a bachelor on
8 Dec 1879 at Prospect.
4 Charles Allsopp Harty, third son born circa 1821 died at 48 Harcourt Street on 20 Jul 1840.
5 Henry Lockington Harty youngest born 1826 at Merrion Square, Dublin became the 3rd
Baronet on the death of his brother Robert. Henry married Anna Davis on 10 Jul 1854 at
Drumcondra Church. Anna of Donnycarney was the daughter of Henry Davis a solicitor.
Henry was governor of Mercers Hospital and the Children’s Hospital and was a member of
the Rathdown Guardians. He was also Dublin city coroner for over 50 years. He died
4 Apr 1913 at Casino.
1 Allsopp Frederick born 1856 in Dublin and kept Great Danes which he showed. He
was a surgeon and died a bachelor 18 Sep 1904 at Casino.
2 Pauline Rhoda Harty born 1857 in Dublin baptised at Chapelizod married Frederick
William Forsythe, solicitor on 18 Jun 1885 at Taney Church. Fredrick of 3 Cambridge
Road was a solicitor and the son of John Forsyth, solicitor.
1 Anna Pauline Forsyth born 25 Apr 1888 at Casino was educated at Alexandra
College. She married Dr Robert James Bonis at Taney Church 16 Apr 1912
and they lived at The Cottage, Great Glen in Leicestershire. Robert enlisted
and fought in Egypt. They divorced on his return in 1916 and Anna married
Stanley Whittle, a farmer who was the co- respondent in the divorce, at St
Martin’s London in 1916. She resided in London during the war and went to
Cologne after the war to join her husband. They moved to Australia in 1920.
Stanley died in 1932 and Anna thirdly married John Augustus Egan in 1935 in
New South Wales. Anna was contacted in 1939 with news that her uncle
Lionel had left her a bequest of 8K. It is not known if she received this.
3 Elizabeth Kathleen Harty born 1859 baptised at Chapelizod married Frederick
Leopold Flood, youngest son of John Wellesley Flood and of Olivia Bradley of
Ruby Lodge, Blackrock.
4 Lionel Lockington Harty born at Whitecross, Inchicore on 29 Aug 1864 baptised at
Chapelizod. He was living at Belrobin (Balrobin), Co Louth when he married Lucy
Annie Willcocks on 7 Oct 1894 at Chapelizod parish church. Lucy was the daughter
of Captain John Willcocks, JP, of St Lawrence, Chapelizod, Co. Dublin. Lionel was a
Leinster Billiards Champion in his youth and in later life a keen golfer and huntsman.
Lionel became the 4th and last Baronet on the death of his father in 1913. Lionel
died 6 May 1939 at Balrobin, Dundalk and was buried at Barronstown cemetery. He
left 8K in personal estate which was left to his wife and daughters. Lucy died aged 80
on 6 Aug 1947 after being thrown from a horse and trap. She left nearly 6K in
personal estate.
1 Eileen Rhoda Harty born 4 Oct 1895, at Belrobin in Co Louth living at Belrobin,
Newtown Park Avenue, Blackrock in 1962.
2 Kathleen Annie Harty born 16 Apr 1897 at Belrobin, Co Louth married John
Wellesley Flood on 12 Apr 1921 at Dundalk. John was the son of Dr Frederick
Flood. The moved to Liverpool living firstly at Bedford Street and later at
Roehampton. Kathleen died there in 1960.
3 Lockington Way Harty born 2 May 1902 at Collegnes, Booterstown died from
tetanus after cutting his hand with a knife on 28 Sep 1911 at Belrobin.
6 Adelaide Emma Jane Harty born 1828 married George Henry Haigh of The Shay, Halifax, and
Grainsby Hall, Lincs at Taney Church on 13 Dec 1859. George was the son of William Haigh.
They lived at ‘Aber Iâ’, Gwynedd, North Wales. This property was later made famous as
Portmeirion, designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis and used as a location for the TV series The
Prisoner. George died in 1887 and Elizabeth died in 1919.
1 George Henry Caton Haigh baptised at Taney on 13 Dec 1859 died in 1941.
7 Elizabeth Henrietta Harty born at Prospect House, Roebuck in Apr 1830 died a spinster at
Prospect Hall on 8 Aug 1902.
