Thomas Hartford born circa 1769 in Co Kilkenny son of William Hartford. solicitor of
Sheastown House, Kilkenny. When he died his business at High Street Kilkenny was
taken over by his brother in law Kenny Purcell. One of their daughters became a nun
of Presentation Convent, Carlow in 1846. Eliza died at Hardwick Street on 16 Jun 1858
and was buried at Glasnevin.
1 James Hartford, second son born circa 1816 educated at Everton, Queen’s County
admitted Kins Inns in 1832.
2 John Pierce Hartford born circa 1820 educated at Carlow College. A solicitor of
Lower Merrion Street from 1849 and entered in to a partnership with his uncle
Kenny Purcell and carried on a successful business in Co Kilkenny a business he
carried on after the death of his uncle. He married Marie Josephine Doyle on
12 Sep 1853 at St Michan’s R C Church on 12 Sep 1853. Marie was the second
daughter of Joseph Doyle of Blessington Street.They lived at 11 Henrietta Street
and later at Dominic Street and were at Kenilworth by 1863. He was a member
of the Kildare Hounds. He was appointed sessional solicitor for the county and
city of Kilkenny in 1872. John died 15 Nov 1898 at 2 Bayswater Terrace,
Sandycove, Kingstown and was buried at Glasnevin. He left 21K in personal estate.
Marie Josephine was living in Kenilworth Square, Rathgar in 1911. She had eight
children of whom seven had survived. She died 19 Jan 1917 aged 91 and was
buried at Glasnevin.
1 Josephine Hartford eldest daughter born 30 Jun 1854 at Upper Sackville
Street. She died on 2 Aug 1876 at the Eagle Hotel, Lisdoonvarna and was
buried at Glasnevin.
2 John Pierse Hartford born 26 Sep 1855 at 29 Upper Sackville Street was
sworn in a solicitor in 1878. He was a bachelor living with his mother in
1911. He died 4 Jul 1933 and left personal estate of 47K. Probate was
granted to his brother Ignatius. He was buried at Glasnevin.
3 Son Hartford born 12 Nov 1858 at 11 Henrietta Street.
4 Fanny Hartford second daughter born 29 Mar 1857 at Henrietta Street
married Charles Fahie, MD of Rush on 12 Sep 1881 at St Joseph’s Glasthule.
Charles was the son of James Fahie, architect.
5 Ignatius Purcell Hartford born 20 Jan 1863 at Kenilworth Square. He was
admitted a licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeon in 1885. He married
Anne Cecelia Coyne at Booterstown RC Church on 30 Apr 1904. Anne was
the daughter of Charles Michael Coyne of Kiltane Abbey, Mayo and Ashfield,
Booterstown. They moved into Ashfield House. By 1911 Ignatius, a physician
and surgeon was no longer in practice and the couple had no issue. Annie
died circa February 1945 aged 75 and Ignatius died 20 Jun 1945 at Ashfield.
Both are buried at Glasnevin.
6 Joseph Thomas Hartford born 1866 at 9 Kenilworth Square in Rathgar. He
was a bachelor and a major in the Cheshire Regiment on the retired list living
with his mother in 1911. He died on 18 May 1939 at 76 Kenilworth Square,
Rathgar, He left personal estate in England & Ireland of 6K. He gave all his
property, real and personal to his brother, Ignatius. He was buried at
Glasnevin.
7 Ada Mary Hartford born 9 Sep 1867 at 76 Kenilworth Square married Patrick
Reddy on 18 Jun 1902 at the Three Patrons Church, Rathgar. Patrick was a
merchant and the son of John Reddy, a merchant.
8 Kathleen Hartford a spinster living with her mother in 1911. She married
Jerimiah John Ryan on 11 Oct 1922 at St Michael’s Kingstown. Jerimiah was
the son of George Henry Miller Ryan of Ingoldsby House, Castleconnell.
3 Sarah Hartford, eldest daughter married William George Turner on 9 Sep 1856
at Ennisnagg Church. Willian was a late lieutenant of the 25th King’s own
Borderers.
4 Eliza Hartford, second daughter born September 1825 in King Street, Kilkenny
baptised 2 Oct 1825 at St Mary's, Kilkenny City married John Doyle of Ballysalla
House in May 1855. John was the eldest son of Joseph Doyle of Blessington Street.
5 Catherine Hartford baptised 29 Apr 1816 at St Mary's, Kilkenny City.
6 Thomas Hartford baptised at St Mary's, Kilkenny City on 4 Jan 1818.
7 Mary Frances Hartford baptised 1 Jan 1827 at St Mary's, Kilkenny City.
