George Thomas Hayden born circa 1801 in Dublin son of Thomas Hayden. He graduated
Trinity BA in 1834 and MB in 1840. He was also licensed to practice as an apothecary.
He married Eliza Louisa Brock on 29 April 1824 at St Thomas’ Church, Dublin. Eliza was
the only daughter of the late James Brock of Westpalstown (near Balrothery), Co Dublin.
They live at 32 Harcourt Street from 1835 to 1846, 33 Harcourt Street in 1846 and 82
Harcourt Street by 1848. George leased No 82 from Jane Carmichael nee Bourne, wife
of his late good friend Dr Richard Carmichael. He brought in a system of appointments
and charges for his services and advertised himself as a General Medical Practitioner.
This did not go down well with his colleagues who took umbrage at him stating his prices,
and stripped him of the right to use the term Fellow of the RCSI. Instead, he advertised
himself as Ex-Fellow and Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons and Surgeon to the
Anglesey Lying in Hospital. He was also a lecturer on operative surgery in the original
School of Medicine, Peter-street. He was on the board of the Irish Manufacture movement,
a supporter of Cloncurry and a generous benefactor of Father Theobald Mathew. He wrote
numerous books/pamphlets aimed at the general public on how to keep the body and
mind healthy. He was ill in 1855 and they moved to Mount Salem, near Whitecross.
George died 29 July 1857 at Rathmines, late of 82 Harcourt Street, Dublin and he was
buried at St Michan’s. His practice at 82 Harcourt Street, under the same regime, was
taken over by Dr George Humphries. Eliza died 8 Sep 1864 at 27 Charlemont Street and
was buried with her husband and son at St Michans.
1 Maria Hayden only daughter born circa 1825 died 24 May 1834 at Harcourt
Street.
2 George Thomas Hayden (junior) born circa 1826 was an artist. He married Ellen
Cecelia Finneran on 26 Sep 1855 at the Registrar’s office, Dublin and also at St
John’s Chapel in Liverpool. George Thomas Hayden senior was a witness. Ellen
was the youngest daughter of Thomas Finneran, an architect and marble
manufacturer of Talbot Street and Richmond Cottages, and his wife Eliza. George
died at Richmond Lunatic Asylum died 28 Jun 1885 and left £173 in personal estate.
His widow Ellen of 16 Annadale Avenue, Fairview was granted letters of
administration. Ellen died at 7 Foyle Terrace, Fairview in 22 Dec 1887.

2 Ellen Cecilia Hayden born at 49 Upper Blessington Street in December 1858,
baptised at St Michan’s on 8 Dec 1858. She was a spinster living her aunt
Marian Finneran at 7 Foyle Terrace in 1901 and her age is understated. She
was living at Highfield Road with her brother George in 1911.
3 Louisa Henrietta Hayden born 2 Jun 1860 baptised at Rathmines on
9 Jun 1860. She was a spinster living with her aunt Marian Finneran at 7 Foyle
Terrace in 1901 but her age is understated. She died a spinster at 12 Foyle
Road on 25 May 1907.
4 George Frederick Hayden born at Morton Lodge, Rathmines on 16 Jul 1862
living at 7 Foyle Terrace in 1901. He died at Portrane mental Hospital on
19 Dec 1925 late of 33 Mount Pleasant Square, Ranelagh.
5 Christina Maria Hayden fourth daughter born 24 Dec 1866 at 41 Upper
Rathmines baptised at Rathmines on 31 Dec 1866. Christina died a spinster
3 Oct 1889 at 7 Foyle Terrace.
6 William Henry Brock Hayden born at Coldrina, Lucan baptised at Clondalkin
in 1869.
3 John James Hayden second son died at Harcourt Street on 28 Feb 1853 and was
buried at St Michan’s.
