Mountmellick married Hannah Woodcock Perry born 16.05.1829, daughter of James Perry and
Hannah Woodcock of Obelisk Park, at the Friends Meeting House in Monkstown. Marcus died on
31.12.1885 at Obelisk Park and was buried at Temple Hill. He left 50K in personal estate.
Hannah died on 16.09.1913 at Obelisk Park and left 27K in personal estate.
1 Robert Goodbody born 25.07.1850 at Obelisk Park graduated Trinity in 1867 reading law and
mathematics and was awarded the Gold medal in 1871. He married Isabella Dora Pim daughter
of Thomas Pim and Isabella Sophia Lister of Glenfarragh House, Kingstown on 19.10.1872 at
Monkstown. He was called to the bar in 1873 and the couple moved to 43 Raglan Road. He
went into partnership with his cousin Jonathan as a stock broker in 1876. They traded as
R & J Goodbody and had offices at 50 Dame Street in 1880. Isabella died 23.07.1878 at Raglan
Road, Dublin and was buried at Temple Hill.
1 Isabella Sophia (Bella) Goodbody born in Ballcumber in 1873 died in London in 1929.
2 Hannah Francis Goodbody born in Blackrock in 1875 died in London in 1931.
3 Marcus Goodbody 1876 was a stockbroker of New York and married Harriet Hudson.
4 Thomas Pim Goodbody born Blackrock was an accountant in Toledo and married Luette
Spitzer.
Robert secondly married Amy Sophia Urwick, 3rd daughter of the Rev William Urwick, London on
04.07.1882 at Marlborough Road Presbyterian Church. They moved to Fairy Hill after alterations
were completed in 1882. Amy Sophia died 04.05.1883 shortly after the birth of their son William.
5 William Urwick (Willie) Goodbody born 1883 in Blackrock was a lawyer in New York
and married Mary Jack. He was well-known sportsman and the proprietor of Invergarry
House in Scotland. William was one of the first people to record a sighting of the Loch
Ness monster, whilst driving by the Loch in December 1933 with his two daughters.
William died in 1949 leaving 442K in personal estate.
Dora's sister Margaret Pim moved into Fairy Hill take care of the children. Robert and Margaret
were prohibited from marrying in Ireland under Consanguinity as they were brother and sister-
in-law. They moved to New York and were married there on 25.08.1885 at Trinity Chapel.
Robert joined in a partnership with Charles Dow. When he received his naturalisation the
partnership was dissolved and Robert traded as Robert Goodbody and Co, Stockbrokers.
Charles Dow went on to concentrate on the Wall Street Journal which he had founded. Robert
late of Maledon Passaic County, New Jersey died 13.04.1911 and Margaret died in 1947.

Haughton and Elizabeth Hutchinson on 26.10.1880 at Friends Meeting House, Monkstown.
Margaret died 20.12.1931 aged 77 years and Benjamin died on 20.12.1931 in Cork.

manufacturer and married Lydia Maria Fisher daughter of Thomas White Fisher of Youghal on
05.09.1893 in Eustace Street Meeting House. To mark their marriage Messrs T P & R Goodbody
of Greenville brought 150 workers and their families on an excursion to Powerscourt and Lough
Bray which included a meal and dancing.
Marcus and Lydia lived at Raglan Road before moving to Talbot Lodge circa 1898. Marcus was
Hon Secretary of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce before becoming its president. He was a
director of many public companies as well as chairman of the Port and Docks Board. He was also
Consul for the Netherlands government. Marcus died 10.08.1923 and Lydia died 02.03.1942
at 7 Castle Park Rd, Sandycove aged 84. They are buried at Temple Hill.

He fought in WW1 and was awarded the Military Cross. He married Marjorie Pern in
March 1920 at Basingstoke. He was a director of Dublin County and Sport Club and died

received her degree in 1917. She married Daniel Joseph Carroll in New York on
24 Feb 1929 and they lived in Gerrard's Cross, Bucks.
3 Godfrey Marcus Goodbody born 16 Apr 1898 at Talbot Lodge, Stillorgan was educated
at the Portora Royal School and Trinity College and took part in the defence of TCD
during the Rising. He enlisted and served during WWI as a second lieutenant with the
Royal Field Artillery, he fought at Sebourg, River Aunelle 4 Nov and at Havay, north of
Maubeuge on 10 Nov 1918 for which he was awarded the Military Cross. He married
Iris Eldina Sillery, daughter of John William Sillery of Cragg House, Nobher at St Brigid's
Church, Stillorgan on 30 Jun 1926. He held rank of major with the Intelligence Corps in
WWII. He was manager and later MD and chairman of Friends Provident in Ireland.
After they married Godfrey and Irish lived at Hillside on Westminster Road. Iris was a
director of menapia Ltd a fashionable dress shop in Dawson Street. They lived at
Herbert Hill from 1937 to 1941. Godfrey of 4 Appian Way died at Portobello Nursing
Home on 4 Dec 1958 and was buried at Temple Hill.

bachelor on 12 Jan 1946.

at The Friends Meeting House in Monkstown on 4 Jun 1936. The couple resided at
Dalkey.

Catherine Harrison Dow eldest daughter of Charles H Dow of Brooklyn on 15.06.1899 at
Brooklyn, USA. William died at Clonfaddagh, Blackrock on 13.01.1908. Kate a widow
living in Stillorgan in 1911.
11 Manliffe Francis Goodbody born 17.11.1868 Clara. Manliffe, a lawn tennis player married
Margarita Howat Mathieson daughter of Kenneth Mathieson on 22.11.1904 at St Georges
Church, Campden-Hill. He died on board the steamer Sussex on 24.03.1916 which was
torpedoed in the English Channel during WWI.
12 Francis Woodcock Goodbody (Dr) born 09.09.1870 married Olga Brialliana Adele Harley
daughter of the late Dr George Harley on 20.07.1901. Olga died 18.01.1836 and Francis died
30.11.1938.
13 Arthur Edward Goodbody born 26.04.1873 Clara. Arthur, a tobacco manufacturer lived at
Obelisk Park. Arthur married Dorothy M Morgan in 1916 and died at his home The Cottage
at Stoke D’Abernon on 20.02.1944.
