Frederick Elliott born circa 1818 son of Frederick Elliot was accepted at the Conference of
1843 as a candidate for the Methodist ministry and his first appointment was to Killaloe
in Co Limerick. He was the Wesleyan minister in Berehaven and married Jane Reed on
20 Dec 1847 at Kilnamanagh Parish Church. Jane was the daughter of John Richard Reed
of Berehaven Mines, Cork,
1 Maria Elliott, eldest daughter born circa 1849 married Rev William Charles North
of Irvinestown on 22 Mar 1871 at the Wesleyan Church, Tullamore. They moved
to California in 1887 on account of Maria’s health. Maria was licensed to
preach the gospel in Onondaga in 1890.
1 Jane Amelia North born 7 Apr 1872 at Belfast.
2 Rachel Ballam North born 26 May 1874 at Silverstream.
2 Rachel Elliott, second daughter born circa 1850 married Henry Charles Ballam,
Arvagh on 26 May 1874, at the Wesleyan Church Ballinasloe. Henry was a grocer
and was bankrupt in 1876. Henry, Rachel and their four children went to New
South Wales, Australia in 1881.
1 Susan Jane Ballam born 15 Mar 1875 at Arvagh, Co Cavan.
3 Henrietta Elliott, third daughter born circa 1852 married Rev John H Martin of
Glenarm at the Methodist Church at Ballinasloe in May 1874. Henrietta died at
Fermoy on 5 Jun 1878.
Frederick based in Galway secondly married Sophie Ruddell on 26 Oct 1876 at Shankhill
Parish Church. Sophie was the daughter of George Ruddell of Lurgan. He died on
20 May 1902 at his residence 5 Fitzwilliam Street, Belfast aged 84 and was buried at
Balmoral cemetery. Sophie was living with her son Alexander in 1911 and died
Jan 1919 at Englewood, the home of her son.
4 Rev George R Elliot born 31 Jul 1877 at Eyre Square, Galway was educated at the
Methodist College and Queen; College. He graduated BA in 1902 and LLD in
1910. He married Sarah Eliza Clements in 1910 in England. He and Sarah
identified as Methodist and George was a teacher of ancient classics in 1911.
He was ordained for the curacy of St Aidan’s in 1913 and was curate of
Monkstown in 1916. George was rector of Christchurch, Carysfort from 1924
to 1933. George died in 12 May 1933 at The Parsonage (now at 11 Lower Prince
Edward Terrace). His funeral was held at Christ Church, Carysfort and he was
buried at Deansgrange. Sarah died 22 Feb 1973 at Bushey, Hertfordshire on
22 Feb 1973 and was buried with her husband.
1 Leslie Aidan Elliott born 5 Sep 1913 at 44 Eglantine Avenue, Belfast. He
graduated Queen’s College Belfast and took Holy orders. He accepted the
curacy of Lisburn Cathedral in 1937. He married Sylvia Margaret Hall on
17 Oct 1939 at St Thomas’ Church, Mount Merrion. Sylvia was the younger
daughter of Frederick Henry Hall of Ardmore. Leslie was later curate of
Zion, rector of Celbridge, Finglas and Greystones.
2 Dorothy Mabel Elliott born 1 April 1920 at 16 The Crescent, Kingstown.
2 Alexander Elliott born 30 Oct 1878 at Eyre Square, Galway was a merchant/grocer
and later a commercial traveller for cocoa and chocolate. He married Amelia
Hunter (Amy) Shaw on 7 Nov 1900 in Belfast. Amy was the second daughter of
James H Shaw of Fitzwilliam Street and Had a B from RUI. They lived at
Englewood, Marlborough Park South, Belfast. Amy died 26 Sep 1945 at Englewood.
Alexander died 30 Mar 1951 at his home at Marlborough Park.

his parents in 1911.
2 Alexander Pearson Elliott second son born 4 Feb 1907 at High Street,
Hollywood was a solicitor on the practises of Johns, Elliott’s and John’s, Belfast.
He married Russell Louise Strapp of Chelsea, London and Durban, SA at St
George’s Church, Hanover Square, London on 12 Sep 1936. Louise was the
daughter of Dr Russell Strapp of Atherstone Mews, Cromwell Road and
Emoyeni, Durban, North Natal.
3 James Hunter Shaw Elliott born 17 November 1916 at Englewood, Marlborough
Park graduated BA, LLB from Queens. He married Rosemary Flynn on
25 Jun 1941 at St John's, Malone. Rosemary was the daughter of Prof Theodore
Thompson Flynn of Broomhill Park, Belfast and professor of Zoology at Queens.
Rosemary was the sister of the actor Errol Flynn. They divorced in May 1950 and
Rosemary married Charles Warner in Columbia USA in June 1950.
