Patrick Egan a grocer, wine and seed merchant of North King Street married Mary Teresa Brangan
at St Paul’s on Arran Quay in 1841. Witnesses were Laurence Brangan and James Fallon. Mary was
the only daughter of Laurence Brangan who operated a seed warehouse on 85 North King Street.
Patrick bought the lands of Cloneen, near Roscrea, in County Tipperary, the estate of John Talbot
in 1852. Patrick died in 1859 and left 18K in personal estate and in 1869 Mary and her children
moved to Ruby Lodge where the family continued to live until 1902.
1 Patrick Michael Egan eldest son baptised 22.03.1842 at Haddington Road and died on
17.01.1868 after a long illness at North King Street. Funeral to Glasnevin.
2 Rose Egan baptised 14.05.1843 at St Paul’s, Arran Quay.
3 Mary Teresa Egan 2nd daughter baptised August 1844 at St Paul’s and died 13.05.1859 aged
14 years at 89 North King Street. Funeral to Glasnevin.
4 Laurence Egan a Merchant baptised 01.02.1846 at St Paul’s eldest surviving son of late
Patrick Egan married Esther Frances Dawson of 17 Idrone Terrace 3rd daughter of late Michael
Dawson of Phoenix Park, Melbourne, Australia on 12.09.1877 at the Parochial Church,
Booterstown. Laurence of Riversdale, Queens Park, Monkstown and North King Street died on
17.03.1889 in Melbourne.
5 William Albert Egan baptised October 1847 a Seed Merchant died unmarried on 30.11.1901
aged 54 years at Ruby Lodge, Williamstown. Fanny McDonnell sister present at death. Probate
to Joseph Byrne.
6 Rev John Charles Egan baptised 26.06.1849 at St Paul’s, Arran Quay. John of the University
Church, St Stephen’s Green was one of the Executors of his mother’s probate in 1884.
7 Emily Agnes Egan eldest daughter baptised 22.12.1850 at St Paul’s. Emily married Joseph Byrne
MD of Pump Street, Londonderry son of late Peter John Byrne of Peafield, Blackrock on
19.11.1872 at the Church of St John the Baptist, Blackrock. The family lived in Londonderry.
Emily died on 15.10.1906 aged 56 years and Joseph died on 18.01.1911 aged 63 years both at
24 Pump Street, Londonderry.
8 Edward Denis Egan baptised 20.07.1852 at St Paul’s, Arran Quay. Edward a Wine Merchant
married Catherine Murphy daughter of Michael Murphy of Altadore, Blackrock on 08.02.1878 at
Roman Catholic Chapel in Monkstown. Edward died on 27.05.1907 aged 54 years.
9 Michael A Egan youngest son born circa 1855 an Insurance Agent died unmarried on 23.01.1899
aged 44 years at Ruby Lodge and buried at Glasnevin. Nicholas Mathews the gardener was
present at death.
10 Lucinda Egan baptised January 1857 at St Paul’s.
11 Frances Egan born 14.07.1858 and baptised 18.07.1858 at Bray, Co Wicklow married Randal
McDonnell a Solicitor of Greenfield, Donnybrook living at Grove Avenue on 25.01.1897 at
Booterstown. Randal died on 11.11.1913 at 2 Grove Avenue, Blackrock and Frances died on
18.12.1919 aged 60 years at Hotel Pelletier, 95 Lower Leeson Street.
