Joshua Edmundson son of Joshua Edmondson and Charlotte Goff, merchant of Dublin married Mary
Wigham on 6 May 1840 at the Friends Meeting House, Edinburgh. Mary was the daughter of John
Tercius Wigham and Charlotte of Edinburgh. Joshua was proprietor of Joshua Edmundson & Son of
Capel Street, Tin Plate Workers, Japanners and Furnishing Ironmongers and gas fitters established in
1830. Joshua helped in a soup kitchen and died from typhus on 26 Jan 1842 at Capel Street leaving a
very young family. The running of Joshua Edmundson & Co was taken over on his death by his 19
year old apprentice and brother in law John Richardson Wigham, who later married to Mary Pim.
1 Joshua William Edmundson born 5 Dec 1841 at Capel Street living at Landscape, Foxrock in
1870 married Maria Bewley daughter of Samuel Bewley of Sandford on 8 Sep 1875 at the
Meeting House in Eustace Street.
2 Jane Wigham Edmundson born 30 Jan 1843 at Capel Street married Joseph Shackleton
in 1866.
3 Charlotte Edmundson born 28 Apr 1844 at Capel Street died a spinster at St Elmo, Howth
on 13 Jul 1916.
4 Eliza Edmundson born 25 Oct 1845 at Capel Street died a spinster at Terenure on
10 Mar 1932.
5 John Wigham Edmundson 27 Nov 1847 at Capel Street was educated at Bootham School in
Yorkshire. He married Gertrude Watson on 24 Feb 1875 at the Friends Meeting House
Newcastle on Tyne. Gertrude was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Watson of Gateshead.
John was a civil engineer of Foxrock working on lighting for lighthouses with Edmundsons of
Dublin and they lived at Rothbury on Torquay Road in Foxrock. In 1882 they moved to
Gateshead as the Managing director of Edisan Company who manufactured electric lights
and later worked for Sunbeam Lamp Company. John died in 1922.
1 Herbert Watson Edmundson born 5 Dec 1875 at Rothbury, Torquay Road, Foxrock
educated at Bootham School in Yorkshire married Olive Mary Harrisson, eldest daughter
of Henry Harrisson, of Bocking in 1904. Herbert died in 1950.
2 Gertrude Mary Edmundson born 6 May 1877 at Rothbury, Foxrock attended The Mount
School, York. She married Lawrence Richardson in 1904. Lawrence was the representative
of the Friends Relief fund in South Africa.
3 John Edgar Edmundson born 22 April 1879 at Rothbury, Foxrock married Marion Hall at
the Friends Meeting House in Thirsk in July 1903. Marion was the daughter of John William
Hall. John was appointed resident engineer and manager of the electricity supply company
at Grantham and died in 1920.
4 Sarah Watson Edmundson born 7 Nov 1880 at Rothbury, Foxrock attended Mount School
in York and was living with her parents in 1911 at Gateshead and died 11 Ventnor Avenue,
Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1952.
5 Cyril Edmundson born 1883 in Gateshead was educated at Bootham School in Yorkshire.
He was an agricultural student in 1901. He moved to Saskatchewan, Canada and married
Myrtle Pansy Benjafield in 1911. They later moved to California and ran a garden nursery.
6 Eva Lucy Edmundson born 17 Nov 1888 at 2 Claremont Park, Gateshead on Tyne was
a student preparing for missionary work in 1911 and died 11 Ventnor Avenue,
Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1952.
