James Edmonds, solicitor born circa 1797, son of William Edmonds and Anne Cambie.
Edward a member of the Kings Inns was admitted attorney of the Exchequer on 21 Feb 1818.
He married Ellen Matilda White on 24 Apr 1821 from North Earl Street. His offices were at
Denzille Street in 1828, 14 Fleet Street in 1832, 17 Lower Gloucester Street in 1842 and
Charlemont Street in 1846. His was in the Insolvent Debtor’s Court in 1828 and remanded
for four months at the suit of Mrs M Keogh, his client for whom he had recovered £293 and
withheld the sum. Ellen’s sister Malvina married Edward Geoghegan. Edward died on
25 Apr 1849 a Charlemont Street. Ellen died at Dawson’s Court on 18 Nov 1878.
1 James Edmonds born circa 1824 died 28 Mar 1844 on his passage home from Australia.
2 Matilda Edmonds born circa 1826. She was living at 19 Charlemont Street and married
Michael Mills of 19 Charlemont Street at St Peter’s Church on 17 Jun 1848. Michael was
the son of Daniel Mills. Witnesses James Edmonds and Anne E Edmonds of 19
Charlemont Street.
3 Anne Emily Edmonds of 5 Williamstown Avenue married John Smith Gairdner in
Booterstown Church on 8 Aug 1854. Witnesses: James Gairdner, Michael Mills & Jane
White. John was from Edinburgh, the son of John Gairdner, MD. John was with the
Inland Revenue Office and later comptroller of Stamp duties. They lived at 1 Proby
Square Blackrock from 1864 to 1880. John retired and they lived at Via Quattro, Fontane
Rome. Anne Emily died in Rome on the 3 Jan 1884 and was buried there. John died
27 Aug 1889 at Scarborough and was buried at Calton Old Cemetery, Edinburgh. They
had no children.
4 Mary Edmonds third daughter born circa 1827 died 1 Jun 1862 at Carysfort Avenue and
was buried at Stillorgan graveyard.
5 Susan Edmonds youngest daughter born circa 1829 of Blackrock married John Mills on
8 May 1858 at Monkstown Church. John was the son of Daniel Mills King of Blackrock.
