Drevar Family of Rose Hill, Blackrock
George Drevar an import merchant was Governor of the Bank of Ireland, Member of the Ouzel Galley,
Trustee of the Royal Exchange and Director of Hibernian Mining. He joined the RDS in 1809 being
proposed by John de Courcy and Jeremiah D’Olier. He was elected to the Trade and Manufacturers
Committee and attended meetings until 1826 and was Churchwarden of St Brigid’s in 1827. He
sold his house and warehouse at 39 Townsend Street in 1803 and his house and distillery in James'
Street in 1806. His business premises were based at North Princes Street in 1815. He was treasurer
to The Chamber of Commerce in 1820 with premises at 82 Abbey Street. They were living at Rosehill
by 1827. George died 17.08.1829 at Rosehill and was buried at Stillorgan graveyard. Mary died
07.06.1845 and was buried with her husband.

1 Mary Drevar eldest daughter of Townsend Street baptised 13.05.1798 at St Marks. Mary died
unmarried on 29.09.1867 at Rose Hill aged 69 years and is buried at St Brigids, Stillorgan.
2 George Drevar of Townsend Street baptised 19.05.1799 at St Marks. He attended Rev Robert
Craig's School at Frescati. He was appointed Portuguese Consul in 1823. George married Eliza
Mary eldest daughter of William Stephens on 09.04.1824 at St Peters. George was an export
provision agent and an agent for Lloyds, operating from premises in Abbey Street and their
stores at Ordnance Lane. In 1831 he was also a member of the Corporation for improving the
port and harbour of Dublin, the Ballast
Board. Eliza died circa 1890.
1 George Augustus Drevar 2nd son born circa 1828 married Clara Eliza Francis 4th
daughter of Thomas Francis of Birmingham on 22.02.1853 at Aston Church,
Warwickshire.
2 Harriet St Lawrence Drevar married Thomas Henry Perry on 28.05.1868 at
Chislehurst Church in Kent. Thomas died 24.01.1900 at Belmont late of Kings County
and Harriet died on 20.03.1924 at Belmont.
1 Ernest William Perry born circa 23.02.1869 married Katherine Heloise
Wilhelmina Drought youngest daughter of late Capt John A. Drought of
Whigsborough, Birr in early November 1923. Ernest died on 30.12.1924 aged
55 years at Belmont and Katherine died on 22.09.1936 aged 79 years at 46
Brighton Road.

21.10.1903 at Liss Church. Wilfrid died 10.03.1944 at Belmont.

aged 84 years at 7 Eglington Road.
4 Marion Traill Drevar youngest daughter born circa 1844 died unmarried on
04.02.1929 aged 84 years at 1 Windsor Terrace.
3 Elizabeth Drevar of Townsend Street baptised on 11.09.1800 at St Marks. Elizabeth died
21.07.1876 aged 77 years at Rose Hill and is buried at St Brigids, Stillorgan.
4 John Drevar 2nd son of Townsend Street baptised on 09.09.1801 at St Marks. He attended
Rev Robert Craig's School at Frescati. John married Anne eldest daughter of John Tomlinson
on 04.05.1826 at St Marks.
5 James Drevar baptised on 30.05.1804 at St Marks.
6 William Drevar born circa 1804 married Henrietta St Lawrence Swan of Newtown Park
daughter of the late Graves Chamney Swan on 24.08.1831 at St Brigid’s Church, Stillorgan.
William ran the Shelford steam Mills located at Hanover Street East. The mill extracted oil
from linseed and rapeseed. The mill itself was owned by his brother George which came
to light when William was declared bankrupt in 1860. Harriett died 13.06.1839 aged 36
years and William died 05.04.1878 aged 74 years and both are buried at St Brigid’s,
Stillorgan.
7 Emily DeCourcy Drevar of Abbey Street baptised on 01.02.1810 at St Marks. Emily, a prize
winning poultry breeder died unmarried on10.05.1884 at Rose Hill aged 74 years and is
buried at St Brigid’s, Stillorgan.
8 Anne Drevar of Abbey Street baptised on 12.05.1811 at St Marks. Anne of Newtown Park
was buried at St Marks on 08.06.1840 aged 38 years.
9 Henrietta Andrews Drevar of Abbey Street baptised 13.11.1812 at St Marks. Henrietta
married Robert son of Rev William Clouston of Ballymagarvey on 30.09.1858 at St Brigid’s.
10 Henry Drevar of Abbey Street baptised on 01.12.1813 at St Marks and died a bachelor on
15.05.1890 aged 76 years at 2 Ely Place, late of Rose Hill and Anglesea Street, Dublin and is
buried at Mount Jerome.
