Henry Dawson only son of William Dawson of Charlemont Street, late lieutenant of the 9th
Dragoons and his wife Eleanor Twigg. Henry graduated Trinity and was admitted Kings Inns
in 1806. A barrister at law and with the 9th Lancers, he married Leticia Stapleton in 1807.
Letitia was the daughter of Bryan Stapleton and Frances Hovenden. The marriage produced
one son. Leticia died in August 1808 and was buried at Stillorgan graveyard.
1 William Dawson born circa 1808 died January 1818 and was buried at Stillorgan
graveyard.
Henry secondly married Emily Dunne and together they had ten children. After the move to
Drummartin circa 1820, Emily involved herself with charitable work for Stillorgan parish,
including organising bazaars to raise funds to educate local children. Henry was
churchwarden of Taney in 1823. He was the owner of the Ormond market which he
demolished and built Dawson Circle sometimes known as Dawson's Circus circa 1828.
Although he tried renaming it 'The Sarsfield Market', it remained known as the Ormond
Market. Henry died on 13 Jan 1833 aged 51 at Drummartin leaving 600 pounds in a trust
for his six daughters. Emily born 26 Jul 1788 died 4 Mar 1873 at Morehampton Road. Both
are buried at Stillorgan parish graveyard.
2 Thomas Vesey Dawson, second son, 3 Jan 1813 took Holy orders and was the
Vicar of Kilmocar. He died at 42 Morehampton Road on 18 Jun 1872 and was buried
at Stillorgan parish graveyard.
3 Henry Robert Dawson third son, born 25 Jun 1815 at Dublin, graduated Trinity was
admitted a bencher of the Middle Temple London in 1844. He died a bachelor, late
of 42 Morehampton Road at Woodville, New Ross, Co Wexford (the house of a friend)
on 30 Sep 1868 and was buried at Stillorgan parish graveyard.
4 Ellen Dawson, born circa 1816, eldest daughter married Col W Jacob of Sinclair Road, West
Kensington and of the Bengal Medical Staff on 28 Feb 1835 at Taney Church. Ellen secondly
married Lieut Col James Parsons of the 66 Bengal Regiment NI on 12 Feb 1848 at the church
of the station, Bombay.
5 Jane Dawson born circa 1816 died a spinster at 40 Marlboro' Road on 7 May 1891 aged 75.
6 Margaret Dawson born circa 1820 died a spinster at 42 Morehampton Road on 13 Jan 1880.
7 Brevet Major Richard Henry Dawson born circa 1821 of the 75th Foot Regiment was stationed
in Delhi, wounded and returned to Ireland in 1858. He married Jane Luisa Stapleton. He was
appointed recruiting officer for the Omagh district in 1864. They moved to Baymount in
Booterstown circa 1875. Jane Luisa died 5 Jan 1887 at 12 Spencer Villas, Kingstown. Richard
died 20 Mar 1890 at Spencer Villas.
1 Madelaine Dartry Dawson born in Co Waterford circa 1855 lived at Corrig Avenue,
Kingstown, died after 1911.
2 Rupert Vesey Dawson died 31 Jul 1856 and was buried at Stillorgan.
3 Louis Richard Dawson, MD, surgeon with the Bengal Medical Department married Emily
Georgina Grantley aged 19, daughter of Joseph Grantley at St Thomas' Cathedral, Bengal
on 15 Jan 1886. Louis died intestate on 20 Dec 1889. His campaign furniture and effects
were sold and his debts paid by the army. The proceeds were sent to his widow living
at Pall Mall in London. The couple had no children.
4 Emily Vesey Gordon Dawson died 1 Nov 1879 at Middleton Road, Calcutta.
5 Adrian DeButts Dawson born circa 1858 at Kussawhe, India attended Mr Bates academy
at 29 Gardiner Street. He took second place in the UK in the Civil service exams in 1877.
A became a railway clerk and died a bachelor at Royal Terrace, Kingstown on 7 Apr 1922.
6 Maximillian Dawson (twin) born 17 Jul 1859 and died 4 Oct 1859 at 2 Osborne Terrace,
Kingstown. He was buried at Stillorgan.
7 Leonora Isabella Dawson (twin) born 17 Jul 1859 died 7 Oct 1859 at 2 Osborne Terrace,
Kingstown and was buried at Stillorgan.
8 Eustace Dawson born circa 1861 died 23 May 1884 aged 23.
9 Jane Constance Beatrice Dawson born 20 Jan 1864 at Gortmore Terrace, Omagh.
10 Blanch Geraldine Dawson born 24 Apr 1865 at Gortmore, Omagh married the Rev
Joseph Jeffares Jones, curate of Lurgan at Monkstown Church on 3 Jul 1890.

12 Raymond Devesci Dawson born 1 Jun 1871 at Gortmore, Omagh died 8 Mar 1887 at
12 Spencer Villas, Glenageary aged 16.
13 Morton Vesey Fitzgerald Dawson born 12 Sep 1872 at Abbey House, Omagh married
Louisa Isabella Hamilton at Belfast on 23 Sep 1896. Morton a Baptist minister became
a teacher. The family moved to Canada in 1910 and Morton worked as a clerk in the
Land Titles Office in Calgary. He died in May 1914 at Holy Cross Hospital, Calgary
Alberta.* Probate was granted in Dublin on 4 Nov 1920.

Gregor Forsyth, Lieutenant & Adjutant of the 6th Regiment, Native Infantry at Christ Church,
Gwalior, Bengal on 28 Aug 1851. Alexander was the son of Dr Forsyth, secretary to the
Medical Board at Calcutta.
9 Catherine Dawson born 13 April 1825 baptised at Taney died a spinster on 28 May 1883 at
40 Marlboro Road.
10 William Augustus Dawson, youngest son born 19 Apr 1827 baptised at Taney took Holy
orders and died 5 Jul 1857 at 3 Adelaide Terrace, Donnybrook Road and was buried at
Stillorgan parish graveyard.
11 Emily Vesey Dawson born 24 Apr 1831 baptised at Taney died a spinster on 28 Oct 1914
at Kingstown.
